Kenneth Mathews has done a remarkable job with his two volume treatment of the book of Genesis. His facility with Hebrew and his very sound grounding in theology gives it a great appeal for any evangelical Christian who isn't afraid to dig a little deeper into God's Word. I use it in preparing my Sunday School lessons each week.

An excellent commentary. It has a very thorough exposition of scripture and does an excellent job of informing the reader about the social and cultural practices in the time of the patriarchs

Worth your time. The author gives substantive exegesis of the biblical text without importing his own theological biases into the production.

Scholarly in every way. The writer has good grasp historically, as well as great exposition. It will open the eyes of the beginner as wells as the scholar. Brilliant!

A comprehensive work for all levels of biblical engagement

While limited in the exploration of the various opposing views regarding interpretation, the exposition is scholarly and useful.

Mathews brings clear understanding as the product of his sound exegesis. A great resource for pastor and student alike.
