I really enjoy this Commentary.

Dr. Matthews is a retired professor of Old Testament at Beeson Divinity School. He has written several other books. His commentary on the first part of Genesis is well-researched and very reliable. I use this, and the other commentaries in this series, as my go-to commentaries (I'm a professor of historical and systematic theology among other things). I prefer this level of depth in my commentaries: the Hebrew spelling of key words but also interesting and helpful commentary on all types of things behind and in the language of the text. I have this volume in hard copy form, but the whole set is available digitally too, so I use the other volumes via Logos software. A layperson who's really into the technical aspects of the text but doesn't know Hebrew can still enjoy this volume (and set), but it's aimed at seminary students up to professionals like me. I highly recommend this volume in particular and series in general.

It is a bit dense at times and gives more information than would be needed for teaching, but it is also expremely insightful.

This is an excellent resource for the serious conservative Bible student/scholar. I use it for a class, but it has become invaluable in the Bible class that I teach. It all goes back to the Garden, and this book brings this clearly into focus.

This is the most comprehensive, yet easy to understand, commentary on the book of Genesis that I have found. If you are interested in learning about the first half of Genesis - especially about the people and their relationaships - this commentary is for you.

I like this book, coz the meaning and explain is more clear, and it's a useful book!

Another of the better commentaries on this book from a conservative/evangelical perspective.

This commentary is in depth and have learned a lot from studying it along with the book of Genesis.
