A blade for the siege
Taking inspiration from the ‘Target Master’ figures, the gimmick of ‘War for Cybertron: Siege’ is the use of various smaller Transformers that convert into weapons and armour that can be used by the normal size Transformers. However, these ‘Battle Masters’ despite being quite small still seem a little too large and hence unwieldy in the hands of the normal sized characters of the Siege line, especially when the accompanying blast effects are attached.Lionizer works better than most ‘Battle Masters’ when held by other Transformers simply because he isn’t a gun. He looks more proportionate to the figure holding him. Transforming into a sword is also quite a novelty for this range and it’s a shame there aren’t more non-gun weapons available.Interestingly, Lionizer did originally transform into a gun when he was first released with the ‘Action Master’ (an odd range of non-transforming Transformers???) figure of Rad towards the end of the original Generations 1 run. When in sword mode Lionizer can attach a weapons effect that creates the impression of a cutting motion. Which is also a bit of a novelty. In his lion form the sword blade can either act as a mounted cannon on his back or become an overlarge tail, depending upon how you position it.For some reason this Lionizer is differently coloured to his original look which was orange and grey. However, this figure is about to be re-issued as a special edition alongside a new Megatron as part of the Netflix promotion for their forthcoming War for Cybertron series. This new Lionizer looks set to be in more traditional colours for the character. Quite why he is teamed up with Megatron is a bit of a mystery, however.
