Short and to the Point
I purchased this book because I wanted to learn more about investing in small caps. I knew of the potential upside, and along with that, there is also a very large potential downside. I got this book to better hedge my investment choices to better my chances of picking winners. My first impression was WOW what a small book. The cover price of this book is $27.95, and at only 157 pages I was a little put off. At this price, there better not be any filler or fluff material.Well I was in luck, there wasn't much. If you can stomach the author's ego that is very well written into this book, you will find the information in this book is well worth the price. This is a solid tier 1 investment book, by tier 1 what I mean is that is covers the fundamentals, and covers them very well. This books is pretty much common sense, but common sense written in a style that may enlighten you into new ways of thinking about investing. You won't find any mind-blowing new ways to value companies, or hidden tricks to discovering potential big winners, but what you will get out of this book is a solid understanding of small cap investing.I would recommend this book to anyone who is just getting started with investing and wants to get a better understanding of small caps and what to look for when investing in them. This book is well worth your time and money, if not in picking the perfect winner, in possibly avoiding picking a big stinker.

Good Sensible Advice
I am still reading the book, but I like it, and I particularly like the fact that it seems grounded in reality, with no get rich quick promises. I am a relative beginner in the stock market, but this book has given me confidence to make what have already turned out to be several profitable trades. I would say this is not a book for someone looking for easy money with no effort, but rather a very sensible guide for someone willing to study out how to make money in the stock market. It is easy to understand and just good, sensible guidance for a disciplined approach to investing. I am particularly interested in small caps, so the title got my attention, but I think much of the guidance would apply whether trading in small caps or other categories of securities, so I think it is a valuable read for anyone trading in the stock market.

Fantastic resource!
I have thoroughly enjoyed Ian's book, The Small-Cap Investor. As an active investor, I am always looking for new strategies that I can implement in my investment portfolio. Small-cap stocks have never been a big component of my investing strategy. However, after reading this book I realize that there is a significant opportunity to profit by investing in small cap, unknown companies. The strategies put forth in this book have provided me with the tools to successfully profit and grow my investment portfolio. Active investors who are looking for tips on how to find unknown small cap stocks on the verge of rapid growth will find this book to be a very helpful resource."

Save your money and stick to the teachings of Graham and Dodd
I've read a lot of value investing books including The Intelligent Investor, Security Analysis, and any book on Warren Buffett or Benjamin Graham that I could find. I thought this book overall was 98% fluff. The section on financial statement analysis was fair but still rather weak. Ian tells you to look for companies that are small, earning a profit and are growing but doesn't dig deep and cover any good examples on analyzing a specific business or company that meets the fundamentals that he discusses. It would have been very helpful if he could have covered the fundamentals then look at a couple of successful and unsuccessful examples or case studies applying the fundamentals. He does mention a few stocks that he recommended through his website that did decent but doesn't teach you well on how to do the analysis yourself. He doesn't cover much on earnings or asset valuation which I was very disappointed. I don't think he mentions anything discussing book value or digging deep into the balance sheet comparing net asset value or book value to market value. All very high level discussion with a big push to his website. Overall, I felt the book was inspirational when it comes to investing in small cap stocks but very weak on the practical application of security analysis. Price is what you pay and value is what you get. Save your money and stick to the teachings of Ben Graham whose principals are timeless. As Buffett says, "...those who read their Graham and Dodd will continue to prosper".
