Linksys Business LAPAC1750C: AC1750 Wireless Business Access Point, Wi-Fi, PoE, Remote Cloud Management, Real-Time Network Activity Stats (White)

If your using the Wi-Fi provided by your internet provider's router, you really need to read this.First off, lets be clear, this is a business class access point, not a home wireless router. access points do not have firewalls and for this reason sits behind your home router and not in replacement of it. Plus side to this is they only have one job and they do it better than any wireless router you could buy. If your looking to use this at home (my personal recommendation), you will need to eventually turn off Wi-Fi on your home router.Most people are are now upgrading to 4K TVs and streaming in high definition as well as streaming videos from social media web sites. What they don't tell you, is most of them do not have bandwidth throttling which allows you to limit the amount of data used by the stream. Because of this you will soon realize its easier than it used to be to go past your total data. But most streams will adjust to the bandwidth available (important note). This access point not only lets you have bandwidth throttling per SSID AND/OR per Connection; you can create up to eight (8) SSIDs on this one device. I purchased one for my home after setting one up at a nearby business.I personally got this for my home for the throttling and SSID control. I setup one SSID for my streaming entertainment devices to limit HB (High Bandwidth) streaming unless I want it (throttled). I created one SSID for the family devices, like phones and tablets (throttled). And one SSID for my home office (no throttling). I put my home cameras on the the same SSID as my home office (so there is no lag) and put smart devices (like light bulbs) on a very limited bandwidth SSID. I could have created a separate non-broadcasting SSID just for my home security devices with crazy long passphrases. You can tweak the throttling to your liking until streams seem clear enough for every day viewing. This access point supports up to 802.11 AC (which is WI-FI 5) which works perfect for most anything but the most extreme gamers (who should be directly connected anyway). You can setup a guest SSID tha you only turn on when needed to increase security. In a family with teenagers, you could give each person there own SSID with set bandwidth and be able to monitor there usage. You could then shut one child's internet down without bothering any other devices in the house (very cool).The second reason for getting this was do to the number of devices I have at my home. Most Wireless routers supplied by your internet providers do not have the total bandwidth to support high numbers of simultaneous devices. The home wireless router I got by my provider supported 1100Mbps compared to this access point at 1750Mbps. Figure if you have 30 devices (smart tv, smart bulbs, wireless cameras, smartphones, tablets, game systems), at 1100Mbps thats 36Mbps per device compared to 58Mbps at 1750.Downside, is each saved change to the SSID setting requires the access point to reboot which disconnects everything just to tweak one SSID (not bad for home use but would be bad for change management in a business that requires lots of red tape for business interruptions. Would be nice if it only rebooted the SSID being changed.The cloud management is great and because its cloud based you can get notifications when your home network is down via email to your phone (would be nice to have texting added to this). It also lets you see the top talkers (devices using the most data) which is important in managing your data usage. This can also let you know if you have rouge processes on your devices transmitting or receiving when not in use.NOTE: The default setting does not have it transmitting at full power. So if it seems week at first, then change it under the radio settings.Also not that your devices will determine which radio frequency it connects to so if you find your device connecting at a slower speed, try shutting down the 2.5GHz radio for that SSID (WI-FI 5 802.11 ac only transmits at 5GHz).This is a solid brand with a limited lifetime warranty that i have used in multiple businesses with no regrets so I strongly think this is a good buy. I like this product. Con. Linksys disables local management for all cloud management when the firmware is upgraded. It's a good thing I read through the docs before I update hardware. I called their tech support to verify this. It presents a single point of failure which I don't like. If the internet goes down I loose control of my internal wifi network. (NOT GOOD).Pro's: Easy to deploy. Excellent bandwith /throughput easy management interface and no controller needed. One WAP is the master controller for up to 10 WAP's and one can be assigned the backup master.

I already had a similar Linksys access point in my home, and wanted to supplement the signal. This integrated seamlessly with the same WiFi ID using the Linksys cloud controller.

I previously purchased a LAPAC1750 (without the "C") and had a good experience with it. When I wanted to buy another one, Amazon said there are no more, so I bought this model instead, assuming it would be even better. However, this product (the LAPAC1750C) is terrible because it doesn't work and tech support tells me they can't support it on a Saturday (like their "home" products) because it is a "business" product, which is supported only Monday through Friday. So the fact that I am trying to set it up for a house on a Saturday because I have to work Monday through Friday is completely lost on them.What a stupid policy.I will likely return the device.

I use this at home because my routers always had some wifi dropping issue. Turns out that using an AP helps keep high number of devices well managed with no drops. Even though this is advertised for small business use, I strongly recommend it for medium to large home use. Definitely if you have 20 devices or so around home.

I bought the previous model LAPAC1750 a year ago. My intention with my network was to cluster APs so they would work together on a single SSID. When I went to buy the second AP, the LAPAC1750 were no longer available, so I bought this one. Today I hooked it up and was informed by Tech Suppt that the two are not compatible for clustering since the firmware isn't the same, so I should replace my year old one. I asked what is going to happen when they change it again in the future and I want to add a third one to my network, or if one of the two breaks? They said they didn't know, but I'd probably have to buy all new units. So, Linksys pads their bottom line by making their products obsolete and incompatible with future models. Thanks for the product extortion, Linksys!I tried to call their corporate office to see if anyone could at least tell me how much longer the AC1750 would be offered and even dialing "0" sent me to voicemail. There isn't even a sales support phone number for business products, which these APs are.

Easy to setup.
