Best Pocket Radio I Ever Owned.
I love this radio. They pretty much thought of every feature you need in a pocket radio. There is a lockout switch so you don't accidently switch stations, but allows you to still adjust the volume. There are 5 memory store buttons for AM and FM and are a great way to quickly check your favorite stations.Uses 2 AA batteries that last for like 70 plus hours on Alkaline.Speaker/Mono/Stereo (headphones) switchYou can tune up and down manually or scan by holding the up or down tuning buttons and radio will stop on the next active station. You can then store the station by holding one of the 5 memory keys (hold until it beeps) to store it into memory. The 3 position Speaker/Mono/Stereo (Headphone) switch (in Mono you can hear everything with just 1 earbud) came in handy because I took an old pair of stereo buds and cut off one side to use as mono buds for safety when I'm walking. With the switch on mono I'll hear both channel contents in one ear. Not necessary on AM but essential on FM. The radio comes with a nice pair of C Crane stereo earbuds that sound great and are a nice added feature. The clock keeps good time and stays on even when radio is off, I like that feature. I've been using the original 2 AA batteries for over 3 weeks and still shows full on display. Another nice feature so you know if you need to replace batteries when they get low and aren't surprised when it just stops working like most other radios. The speaker is small but sounds great for voice and ok for music, no real bass but sounds good for the size and is plenty loud for normal listening. I often just stick in my pocket when I'm working out in the yard and can hear it just fine. The reception on AM is fantastic it's like a pocket DX radio, it's reception is as good if not slightly better than my Eton Executive Satellit. Since it's digital it doesn't drift and there is a signal strength meter like a cell phone so you can vary the orientation of the radio to get a maximum signal. Additionally you can adjust tuning between 1 and 10 khz to fine tune in a distant station as well as adjust the bandwidth between 2.5 and 4 khz (2.5 is great for distant stations while 4 is great for local). All the adjustment are made with the memory keys on the front panel and all the combos are printed on the back of the battery cover, so you'll always have them handy. There is also a Weather band with Alert feature. I never use the alert feature but the weather radio is useful and would be handy in a weather emergency. I do need the plug in antenna wire to get good reception on the weather channels but sounds good when you do.The FM reception is excellent as well, I can receive all my local stations without the plug in wire antenna, when you use headphones they act as a FM antenna and the radio does output in Stereo (make sure you switch Speaker/Headphone to Stereo) and sounds great no hiss like some cheaper pocket radios have. This radio is the best pocket radio I ever owned. It just works and sounds great to me.The only Con but also a nice feature is it's Sleep timer (90/60/30/15/120 mins). It's the only negative about the radio in that when the sleep timer turns the radio off it makes a pop sound, which is a little loud and could possibly wake you in a typical quiet room. If they fix that annoyance I would have no cons for the radio, and if you don't use the sleep timer it's a non-issue.The price is a little high at $65 but the radio is totally worth it. It's small and well made and looks like it will last a long time and has a nice U shaped rubber bumper around the sides and bottom of the radio. Now that I own it I totally love it and I would highly recommend it.

Solid radio with one issue
There are many reviews on this radio, which is considered one of the best pocket radios out there. I will not go into detail, but at a high level:• Great build quality.• Great sensitivity on FM and WB. Not bad on AM, but there's only so much you can do with this size radio on MW.• Speaker sound is decent for a small radio, but it shines when using headphones.• An intuitive user interface with a decent feature set.• Good battery life on AA batteries. A must for me since I want to be able to replace batteries on the fly when traveling. One negative - my copy is plagued by the volume issue that appears to be common after the volume dial was redesigned. When using headphones, the volume goes from 0 to annoyingly loud. I purchased an inline volume control for the headphones, which solved the problem, but the volume should work out of the box.So, while annoyed by the volume issue, I am happy with the radio and use it on my train commute to work.

Downhill Performance
I had an earlier model of this same radio and it was amazing!! No hiss, volume knob was tight and flawless, and channel changing was instantaneous.I liked it so much that earlier this year (July, '24) I purchased another, as a backup, since I had dropped my original multiple times. But no matter how many times I dropped the original CCrane Pocket Radio, and retrieved the batteries and battery cover door, it just kept right on working!Until, unfortunately, it bounced into some water. Once again, the batteries and the battery cover door flew off, and I retrieved the radio immediately, but, dead.I hoped that because the batteries weren't in it when it hit the water it would survive. Nope.No problem, right? I had my backup! But the backup, brand new, isn't close to what I had originally, except for the price. There's hiss on every station, AM or FM, which I NEVER had before, ever. And, as others have noted, the volume wheel is a joke. Fortunately, mine works (for now?), but it takes a while lot of turning to raise or lower the volume incrementally in either direction. Horrible. The radio still gets Two Stars for its features, but its performance is nothing like it once was or should be. So disappointed....Buyer beware.Addendum.I was able to nurse the original CCrane radio back to fully functional!!! It took time, effort, patience, and an occasional prayer, but it's working again! Incredible! For that reason, and because of the true professionalism of the stateside CCrane radio people, I've added another star.
