Is the back of the mirror finished (stained)?

No. There is a cardboard-like backing tacked to the back of the mirror itself. You would not want to place this in a spot where the backside would show.

What is the actual length of the mirror?

Actual mirror surface alone is about 43_1/4 inches long .... if you include the trim its about 46_1/2 inches long. Overall hieght from the ground is a little under 5 ft. These mirrors are designed to tilt. If you stand back a bit and tilt the mirror back and forth till you get the desired angle you can get your whole body. I am 5 ft 11 inches tall and I can see myself head to toe after playing with the angle.
