Can it be used to press ginger?

It will press ginger and turmeric but not as well as grating it. I had hoped it would save me the trouble but it didn't work for me. By pressing the ginger and turmeric, all you get it liquid. Hope this helped. A great press for garlic!

How does it work without pressing the peels through?

The little plastic thing with tines for cleaning it has worn out. Can you buy a replacement for that? The press itself is fine.

Yes, but as of April 29th, 2023 the replacement cleaner tool is $5.99 + 8.99 for shipping! Over half the cost of the original entire garlic press with tool that is listed for $25 right now! I'm going to try the toothbrush as someone else suggested.
