Q: Does the tweeter protrude past the mounting surface, and if so, how far??..Looking to install these in the dash of a '79 Corvette...

The tweeter DOES protrude past the mounting surface. I cut a 5/16 foam weather strip and lined the outer part of the speaker. This recessed the tweeter. I mounted the speakers and they sound great- 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ.

Q: What is the actual length and width, including the mounting bracket, for these speakers? The 4"x 6" measurement doesn't include the mount bracket.

I couldn't tell you, I ordered them a long time ago and dont own the vehicle anymore. I ordered them for my dash speakers and they were the exact fit as my old ones that I pulled out

Q: What is the hole cutout size required?

Amazon has a tool to tell you if it's compatible for your car. Make, model, year, etc. After going thru a few that said it was not compatible, I came across the Polk ones that said that it was compatible. Well, it was not. I'm good with my hands and made them fit using the original speaker covers and some fabrication. Amazon I'm disappointed. Your tool does not make the grade.they do sound decent. So Amazon your tool seems to have holes in it and only the speakers make the grade not your tool for fitting the right speakers with your car.So there you goUk

Q: Do they come with grill guards ? Is there a universal grill gaurd for these speakers?

They DONT come with Grills. Just Buy them separate, they're less then 10$ for a Pair (2) of 4x6 Grills
