Q: Like the original mellotron, is there a time limit on holding keys down?

Yes. It ships from the factory with the same time limit as the original tape loops (8 seconds I believe). However, there’s a menu option to turn that function off and have the sound trigger as long as you hold the keys down.

Q: can i plug directly into an amplifier?

Yes- there is a 1/4 inch output that can go directly into an amp - and also a jack for headphones. But the BEST option is to buy a stereo cable, because the output is in stereo. I run a 1/4 stereo cable that splits into two R/L mono cables, then plug them into two different channels of a PA system. Pan them to taste- it sounds awesome. I also suggest a little reverb- these sounds are great but they are totally DRY.

Q: can i use midi to play more than 2 octaves?

Yes. The sounds in the Mellotron library span three octaves (F-F). The Micro keyboard has two octaves (C-C) that can be shifted up or down via onboard octave switch. Or you can reach all three octaves of the library sounds via MIDI.

Q: What is the polyphony of the Mellotron Micro? Meaning the number of simultaneous voices?

The Mellotron Micro has 24-voice polyphony and 2-voice timbrality.
