I use these for mounting together several rack-mount items; in this case, a UPS and it's external battery, plus a couple rack-mount PDUs; without having to have an actual rack - they're just bolted to each other. I have another set that's 2U more that I have network switches, cable management trays, and a 2U drawer. It's a good solution in my case as I don't want to deal with a true rack, but, would like it to look nice and not have things sliding around or otherwise being messy.Of note: be prepared to round the ends if used in this manor; they can be sharp. Also, don't get crazy with the rack screws right off the bat; sometimes the threads will need to be cleaned a bit and the screws CAN try to cross thread. They generally do a good job with the threads, but the coating that gets put on can make a screw jam or not bite right going in.

Worked great. Unlike what other reviewers say, these do accept standard rack screws. Yes, there is paint in the threads but this is standard with machined steel parts. It's no big deal. Simple install the screws with a drill and the threads will clean themselves out.

There are a lot of reviews on this page saying that the mounting screw holes are not the correct size. I used Reliable Hardware rack screw set RH-RMSET-25-A with no problems. Other branded rack screws will not fit.With that out of the way... they're just rails.Not much to be said, but they do their job. However I wish the quality was a little better. The edges are very rough and the screw holes are even rougher. I've attached a few photos.One of the rails in the pair had very consistent holes - all screws went through like butter. The other one, however, had slightly inconsistent holes. Not a big deal. All the holes were aligned properly.

Excellent rails, This fits perfectly in an Ikea Rast nightstand to make a little mini rack. I just went to Home Depot and bought some screws to mount them and ensure they were level. I didn't need to retap the holes, but they were pretty tight. I just used a power drill at a low speed to slowly drive in the rack screws (10-32) after I couldn't do it by hand.

Perfect fit in my Ikea Rast nightstand converted into a server rack. Had some concerns based on other reviews that the hole threads were too small, but the 10/32 screws I had fit perfectly. It did have some sharp edges (so be careful!), but once it's installed that shouldn't be a problem.

These rails function nicely for creating your own rack furniture, but as others have mentioned, the edges are not finished making them dangerously sharp. If you are unable to file them down yourself, please take care when installing them, and keep your finished product in a manner that protects unknowing users from danger. If you are a musician, please protect your hands!

I am installing this for a rack for a home network. This is much cheaper than buying a full rack. I am installing this in a cabinet shelf I built for our closet in the house we are building. Currently in the process of installing and terminating cabling.
