Q: How often do you have to change the tape? How many birds can get stuck before you need to replace it?

The tape seems immune to the elements. So far (several weeks) I have not needed to replace anything. I used thumb-tacks (not tape) to attach the strips to my pergola. Don't know what you mean by birds getting stuck--this tape is supposed to scare the birds away, not trap or injure them.

Yes, you're supposed to hang them. I tried this and many other solutions and none of them have worked for my issue with pigeons. I hung several strips using fishing line in the are where they usually do their business and it was not a deterrent. The only thing that worked somewhat was a goo that creates a sticky residue on their feet. It's horribly messy to apply and can kill the birds. I've tried the fake owls and fishing line strung at small intervals across the area where they usually land and neither has worked well.

Q: does it work with hawks

I have hawks and eagles around and they leave my 20 chickens be so far, six months without an attack since placing on fence around perimeter.

Q: How to attach the tape

You can buy hooks, simply tie it to a branch, or tie it to a zip tie and attach the zip tie loosely to branch or awning or whatever.
