Don't waste your money
Overpriced rip off. I did not use hardly any of the stuff that came in my Celta course so do not understand why I paid £18 for it. the book is very theoretical and cannot be applied. Save yourself the time and money by not buying this book.

A CELTA trainer's view
I am a CELTA trainer and course leader with some 15 years experience and I find this book to be extremely useful. As with most course books some sections are better than others, so you may want to cherry pick it, but I find the sections on presenting grammar, receptive skills, lesson planning and teaching functions particularly useful. If you use this properly with your trainees it has plenty of exercises presented in a though provoking way which will help them to plan and execute lessons better.I would really like to give the book 3 1/2 stars as there are certainly sections of the book I find a bit dry and don't use, but perhaps that is more due to my teaching style. Having said that, if you are a CELTA trainer I would certainly recommend taking a good look at this book for ideas for your input sessions; it is useful for experienced trainers to possibly get new ideas and extremely useful if you are just starting. If you are a trainee this book has its uses but you are probably better off looking at some of Scott Thornbury's other books such as How to Teach Vocabulary or How to Teach Grammar, he is certainly an interesting and useful writer. There are also good books on teaching practice such as Jim Scrivener's Learning Teaching: 3rd Edition Student's Book Pack (Books for Teachers) (MacMillan Books for Teachers).Anyway, just a few thoughts and I hope they are of some help. Enjoy your course.
