Springfield year three
Here, in one box set, spread across four discs, are all the episodes of the third season of the Simpsons.Episodes are as follows:Stark Raving Dad.Mr. Lisa goes to Washington. When Flanders failed.Bart the murderer.Homer defined.Like father, like clown.Treehouse of Horror II.Lisa's pony.Saturdays of Thunder.Flaming Moe's.Burns verkaufen der kraftwerk.I married marge.Radio Bart.Lisa the Greek.Homer alone.Bart the lover.Homer at the Bat.Separate vocations.Dog of Death.Colonel Homer.Black Widower. The Otto show.Bart's friend falls in love.Brother, can you spare two dimes?Languages and subtitles are as follows:Languages: English.Subtitles: English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish. Each disc does begin with a copyright notice that takes a short while to vanish, so just press the menu button the dvd remote in order to skip it.Each episode has a commentary from show creator Matt Groening. He is joined on various of them by other producers and members of the cast.Selected episodes have a pop up trivia feature. Storyboards. Or scene specific interactive sketches. Or an original tv trailer for it. Or audio outtakes. The episode Treehouse of Horror II has four additional language options, and can thus be watched in English, Spanish, French Polish and Czech. On disc one you can find five short tv commercials for a chocolate bar all of which feature Bart.Disc two has a very short clip of tv coverage of a 1991 Thanksgiving day parade, showing a Bart Simpson Balloon as part of it.And disc four has a Simpsons jukebox, which allows you to watch selected muscial moments from various episodes. Either individually or all at once. These epiodes are over twenty years old now. The animation is a bit crude compared to more recent efforts. They're still finding some of the supporting characters thus they sound a little different. But nobody ever argues about the quality of the writing in these early years, so this run should please anyone who watches it.This box set could perhaps have a few more extras, but that's only a minor complaint. It's a very good collection of a very good season.

A technical review
As most of these reviews seem to be of the annoying vain of writing the review before having witnessed the dvd I thought I would write one of the actual dvd.SOUND: First of all, for all you sound junkies like me, it is in 5.1 (incase you dont know, that means full surround sound) thats right, rather surreally you can hear krusty knocking at the simpsons door and it is actually heard souly in the right speaker! Very strange for us used to good old BBC 2 analogue broadcasts but nevertheless adds to the whole experience.PICTURE: Whilst not looking as great as something like Futurama due to its age i guess, the picture is still pretty decent, rather obviously being better than televisions transmissions, but not vastly so. Nothing of great wonder but still acceptable.EXTRA FEATURES: Personally directors commentraries bore me usually, but i find with animation such as Futurama and the Simpsons they are great, almost amusing as the episodes sometimes to hear the writers talking about the episodes! Apart from the commentaries for me there is little, except a few mildly pointless animation features that arent really worth it.Im sure you know the episodes are great, I never realised what great episodes came from season 3.Great dvd, great episodes, well worth it!

Simpsons! So great.
Now this is my only boxset of the simpsons, I wanted to treat my self to one as I know how much I love the show, I saw this and was like what the heck lets try it out, I love all of the episodes and there are so many! For such a cheap price, as it was preowned and still in superb condition this is a great buy!

Just brilliant!
We had to buy this season again as the kids watch teh first one so much it became damaged. Their favourite Simpsons season by far. In terms of time spent watching it - this is a real bargain!

Deep and Meaningful
These Box Sets are tremendous for people like me who never saw The Simpsons when they were originally released. They fill in the gaps - why Krusty is emotionally tortured, why Marge and Homer ended up together, why Sideshow Bob returns to target Bart. I, for one, will now fully appreciate Krusty's appearances because I understand, at a deeper level, his personal history, torment and emotional distance from his audience through his relationship with his Jewish father.I can't wait - but will clearly have to - for Series Four. I note that somehow "themed" anthologies, like the forthcoming Christmas one, are easier and quicker to put together and will force us to shell out money for episodes that will feature in future Box Sets. I'd like the Fox Marketing people to eat my shorts for that.
