A Great Addition to Home Security
I purchased this TP-Link Smart Video Doorbell so that I could add remote front door answering and security to my property without adding another app to my phone, as I already had a few other TP-Link Smart Home products (light bulbs and CCTV).It links with the Tapo app really well and is exceptionally straight forward to install with a step by step guide. As it also adds the Hub (chime unit) it has allowed me to also add Leak/Water sensors (purchased separately)The distance range is good with a reliable connectivity of 5-6m in my case. The doorbell features work well with motion/person detection. Using the app features I have eliminated false alarms and it provides useful notifications on the app and hub. I have it set to record motion/person detection with no notifications, and doorbell notifications with the 2 way talk feature so that I am not bombarded by app notifications every time someone walks out the front door. I initially struggled to get this setup working, but an email to TP-Link Technical Support resolved this issue. I personally find TP-Link products very intuitive to use, so hadn't needed to contact their Technical Support before. Their very quick response and solution, which was far quicker than their target response time, has made me even more confident in the TP-Link/Tapo products. Thank you Aurelia and Tyrone for providing such a quick and customer focused response. The video quality is great, perfectly size formatted to view everything well. Sound quality is also very good. I did initially have another branded doorbell with leak sensors, etc. which had connectivity issues, but due to not wanting multiply apps on my phone, opted for TP-Link and glad I did. Good reliable devices which work well and great Technical Support and help when needed.

Another Superb Device From Tapo
I have been using various ring doorbells with no subscription for the last 6 years and have tried various other devices but they have proven to be troublesome and unreliable. I already have around 16 Tapo devices and thought that I would give their doorbell a try and I’m not disappointed. Setup was very quick and simple, although I did have an issue with Alexa that was quickly solved by Tapo technical support. The initial setup of the doorbell hub requires a network cable plugged into the router but once it’s setup it’s very easy to change the setting to WIFI. This device has many great features and the live stream takes between 2 to 4 seconds on both wifi and 4G. The image quality is superb both day and night and It works perfectly on my 3 Alexa show devices and all recordings are stored on a micro SD card that fits into the hub. There’s also an anti theft setting that sounds an alarm and alerts thieves to return the device to its owner but I’m unsure on whether Tapo will replace the device free of charge if it’s stolen. The doorbell should work for around 180 days on a full charge but it all depends on how many times it’s activated per day. The battery can be removed for recharging and additional batteries are available from Amazon if required.

Excellent value doorbell camera, with limitations
To be clear, I bought this system after becoming frustrated with the Google ecosystem and lack of development in the Google Home space. We had been using a Nest/Google doorbell for quite some years and generally found it to fulfil our requirements but the time had come to try something different since I was in the process of switching the entire home over to Tapo cameras/devices anyway.Mounting of the Tapo doorbell is as easy as you could want, because it is wireless and battery operated it's entirely up to you. Obvious positioning caveats come into play with reception for the wifi but as long as you don't live in a nuclear bunker it doesn't seem to have an issues as long as the doorbell unit is relatively close by.Speaking of the doorbell unit, at first I had this operating wireless situated in the hallway to be as close as possible to the doorbell. This is where one of my frustrations with the unit comes into play. You can actually connect the doorbell unit via ethernet directly to your router (or network switch/port in another location) and I found this to be marginally faster with regards to stream startup speed. The doorbell functions perfectly well for its primary purpose, to make a bing-bong and let you know someone is at the door. As a monitoring device, ie CCTV at your front door, this isn't quite what I'd hoped for. The display resolution is stunning at full 2K and the viewing angle at 160 degrees is excellent. The problem lies in firstly how long it takes to start a video stream if you want to 'have a look what's going on out there'. It takes a good 4 to 5 seconds to connect and start streaming. Now granted, this is a limitation of a battery operated WiFi device so no-one is expecting miracles but certainly something to be aware of. The other majot factor here is that should you use it as a monitoring device, the battery life plummets. You can still get a good week out of the battery with a reasonable amount of constant monitoring but not ideal. I actually ended up purchasing a second battery from Tapo for the doorbell so that I could have one charged and hot-swap instead of waiting. The battery on this doorbell takes a considerable amount of time to charge, a good 4 or 5 hours.Another serious drawback compared to the wired Nest/Google doorbell is that this DOES NOT offer continuous recording. In fact none of the Tapo battery operated cameras do, and this is understandable given that the battery would die in days but something you DO need to take into consideration. There were many times when being able to scroll through continuous footage with the Nest doorbell was an advantage, even providing valuable evidence to the Police in the event of crime in the neighborhood. We have ended up purchasing a second Tapo camera (C520W) for the front of the house under the eaves to serve the duty of continuous monitoring instead of the doorbell so anything we saved in cost vs the Google system was lost. The software from Tapo to control and monitor doorbells/cameras is actually very good. Inuitive, easy to use and everything you need is where you would expect. Accessing stored footage is easy but the doorbell does need either an SD card OR the Tapo Care subscription service (which is very cheap) to be able to record so have this in mind when you purchase. All in all this is a positive review, but I do wish I has realised/known that it doers not offer continuous recording since this would certainly have affected my decision to purchase.

Good door cam
Replacing a wired-in Ring doorbell that was never up to the job - couldn’t hold a connection to my WiFi , this one does the business, possibly because it has a hub that is wired straight into the router. Easy to setup provided you don’t make the mistake I initially made - trying to install the doorbell on the app when what I needed to do was do the hub install first. After I did it the right way round everything connected properly. The battery charged up in a few hours and once it’s in and you have the app working it shows the percentage of battery charge so you have plenty of notice for when to swap or recharge your battery. I will be getting a spare soon so I have one ready to swap straight in.Just put a micro sd card into the hub and it formatted it straight away and now any alerts send a video clip straight to the card where it is immediately viewable from your app. So no subscription, just a one off card purchase and you’ve got storage sorted.Quality of picture and video is very good. Doorbell rings on the hub, as well as on the phone, and it also got announced on my echo dot, so a simple test push of the doorbell and I was deluged with alerts! You can turn off any you don’t want though as well as choosing the volume level for the ringer. Different noises and ringtones too if you want. Although I’ve adjusted the sensitivity of the alert zone so that it’s close to my door, it has just gone off (complete with video) of a man walking his dog past the front of my house, so I will play around with that some more. But very happy with the doorbell, works great and a relief to finally have a security cam with storage in place. I went for this one because I have got a few smart plugs and other cams from Tapo and I just find that their stuff always works well plus I like having everything on one app as well.
