Better Than Expected. Follow the Instructions.
I received the Underground Cable Tracer that I ordered quickly. I have already tested it to see if it works as advertised. I tested it on my underground power source cable from my meter pole to my pole barn. Surprisingly, it worked very well. (Disconnect Power, De-energized cable only) It accurately located the cable. That cable is around two feet deep in PVC conduit. What I learned from playing with it, is you have to set it up like the instructions suggest. At first I tested it with a stretched out extension cord on the grass. I wasn't able to test exactly like the instructions suggested. At this point, I was disappointed in how the meter performed. I was already anticipating sending it back. Then I tried it in a real world application on my buried cable... as the instructions suggested. It worked great. It made me proud to have purchased it. I will say it works best with the earphones. The meter lights are for when you aren't using earphones and using max gain. The device's LED meter would be better if it had a low, medium, and high range selection switch so it could be used under different application needs. The meter didn't even register when I was using the earphone and listening to the signal. But, the earphone and signal sound worked very well. Overall, I would recommend this tracer.

Waste of $
The tool is very complicated since you have to find the wire first to attach cable to the wire that you are trying to find. Makes no sense! Complete waste of $.

Broken perimeter wire locator
This tool makes it easy to find a broken wire location. It took less than 3 minutes to come within 6 inches of the break. Very effective. I connected the red wire to my worx landroid wire and the black to a screwdriver I stuck in the ground. Then follow the path until the noise stops. That simple. The long wire on the handle allows me to walk the path vs crawling.

Not as good as advertised.
I have about 800ft. of underground dog fence which is from 1-3 inches deep when I got to the break I could barely hear the beep sound and that was with the ear piece in. The maker should boost the signal output. I don't think it would cover 1,500 feet and especially 3 ft deep.

Doesn't work
Don't waste your time. I did everything stated in the directions including the multiple methods they suggest. Rod in ground was most effective but still only worked for about 20 feet before it no longer was able to trace the wire which is only about 12 inches deep. I will rent the professional version. It is not accurate at all but for some very shallow purposes it might work. Certainly not hard to use. The speaker was fine until it got further away from transmitter then barely audible even with ear phones. Eventually sound just stopped even though I knew the wire was there.

Way less than 1000 ft promised (signal strength)
Everything was pretty good. The major problem is it says that it detects up to 1000 ft. It was more like 500 and as the battery goes down its more like 100. I had a large yard so i needed to make an additional break because the signal was weak.
