This will give you the mechanical advantage of a pulley without any issues of sand or debris or water degrading or freezing in the pulley's axle and seal seats. Works best with an aramid fiber line and a like soft-shackle tether through the middle. In the rare chance of a failure, the line and soft shackle will still be engaged, so the load will have a short slip, but will not likely break free. It easily disspates heat, but you should still move the line on it at the rate of a winch and not as fast as you might draw on a windlass or block and tackle. Just for the sake of saying it, you should never use the pin of a shackle bolt as the center fixing point or "axle" point -- as well, never use metal wire cabling or chain. Otherwise, it is a valuable tool to have in your off-road recovery kit.

I'm very impressed with the beautiful machining, and high quality finish of this winch pulley. Smooth, frictionless operation is what you want and that's what you get with this simple tool. Aluminum construction means it won't corrode and should last a long time if you keep it free or nicks or abrasions.
