Penguin Pottery - Raku Series Variety Set #1 - Raku Fire in Raku Kiln - Includes 8 4oz Jars

I used three junk pieces as explorations into first raku. I have the sample set of raku glazes. The textured disc is solar flare. A big metallic look! The upside down bee water was not ideal but it did get a nice matte green from 4 U. The blue green from verdigris was great. Each item a different clay body. I will be using these and other colors the next go around with raku using items of purpose. Good quality. The sample set is worth it to experiment with glazes in raku.

The media could not be loaded. Loved the small jars so I could try lots of colors. Took these to a raku retreat & everyone enjoyed playing with them. There is also Mayco glazes on some of these. White is Mayco crackle & pig is Mayco pink crackle.

I have never used Penguin glazes... and will never use them again. Two of the glazes turned out ok.... they arrived in a "liquid brush-able" condition... the other four were semi-solid masses. I attempted to contact Penguin but they have no email/phone info anywhere... I checked. I went on their facebook to ask how to thin this mess... no reply. My teacher and I thinned with distilled water using an immersion blender to what we thought was brush-able... no matter how thin the glazes were they immediately clumped when they touched the bisqued pot. I fired two of the glazes just to see how they looked and after the raku the results were charred black clumps of mess.In other words... DO NOT waste your money on this stuff. Go with Mayco or Amaco or make your own. And forget trying to reach Penguin for advice.It's too late to return this stuff or it would be in the mail like yesterday!!!!
