These are awesome radios. They feel sturdy, the battery lasts all day with use, the speakers sound nice and clear, the reception has been great, I was able to talk to my son11.2 miles away radio to radio. Pretty easy to program, with the upgraded antenna this is a pretty good value. The only downside is the screen is a little dim and hard to see when out in bright daylight.

Just received the radios, charged them up, and loaded them with the SoFLa repeaters using Chirp. (Note you have to select one of the UV-17 variants as UV-21 is not a current option)Mine came with both the shorty and extended antennas. Hit the local repeaters without issue and good audio reports. Instant on WX reception is nice by holding the 0 button. FM broadcast was good but with a little distortion.I’ll give the kit 5 stars but please note it does not include a programming cable.

I did measure 5.6W/4.4W (high/low) transmit power on 2 meters and 4.88W/1.8W 0n .7 meters, using the supplied battery and a dummy load. This output is similar power in the MURS and GMRS bands, but not legal to use on MURS/GMRS. I own an assortment of Baofengs and can say the quality of the receive audio on ham, public service and marine bands is very good as compared to the others. There seems to be more low frequency response with this radio. Please be sure to set the Duplex menu option to 'off' to prevent accidental transmissions when used as a monitor.As of 01/09/25, you will need to use the 'UV-17Pro' selection in CHIRP to program the UV-21R with a PC. I was able to program channels with the unit's keyboard, but that can be tedious.You can program in a VHF AM aircraft band frequency via the unit's keyboard but the audio is poor quality. The FM broadcast band reception is usable but nothing to brag about.This radio feels good in my hand. It is a little heavier than my other Baofengs. If I don’t attach the belt clip, it just feels like it was molded for my hand. Good job on that.I do worry a little about the ‘high-capacity’ battery without any mention of actual mAh, but then, I sometimes worry too much ;) This radio is a good purchase for anyone on a limited budget.

The radios are great, they work fine feel nice and have a long battery life. The problem I have with them is that the programming cables they came with DO NOT WORK! That is a big annoying problem, because without the programming cable the radios are kind of useless.I had to buy a programming cable from another vendor and then pay to download new software in order to program in all of the channels in to the radio.This is not a radio project for new HAMS or people that are just dabbing in radio for fun. You are going to half to research and learn quite a bit to get this type of radio on air and working correctly. This radio kit is a project not a ready made solution!

Sturdy built radios. Best baofeng radios you can get. Easy set up. Can't say enough about how much I like these.... Update.... I've now bought 8 of them. I use for ham and gmrs. Great way for our storm chance team to have NOAA on 1 frequency and talk gmrs to the non hams on our team. We've had them out in heavy rains, hail, freezing weather and extreme heat. And the price is great. Only radio I like more is my Icom Dstar

These radios have out performed any other less than $100 radios my hunting club has tried so far. We have used them at ranges that are further than the advertised range with regularity and they have held up nicely too!

These are for my bugout bag.I got mainly for the HAM radio but it has walkie talkie and fm radio.This is probably my only fm radio outside of my vehicle. lolHas an old school sound to.The walkie talkie is cool too.Very clear sound. Works great.

Gave it a five star because it does what it supposed to. There's a few things/ functions I'm not familiar or have knowledge on. But so far I'm happy with it. Camping with them is a must for us. Battery lasts good amount of talking time. The integrated light very helpful. 👍 👌
