There are more laser measure devices on Amazon than you can shake a stick at. I chose this based on price and simplicity of use. I’m not in the building trade and so I don’t need anything all singing and dancing.This item is simple to use, you just butt the back of it to a wall, press the measure button once to switch on the red dot on the opposite surface and then when the dot is where you want it, press the button again to measure. If you want the reading to be from the front of the gizmo you can press a button to switch the calculation from there.One thing to bear in mind is that if, as I was, you are taking the dimensions of a room, any measurement of a length that doesn’t have a surface at the end to aim at will still require a tape measure. So, for example, the length of a radiator would require someone to hold up a card at one end for you to aim and shoot at. All obvious, really, but just remember to take an old fashioned tape measure to the party.Another thing I found is that the first press of the button to activate the laser is easy but when you want to press it the second time to take the measurement, you need to hold the device very still. In most cases that’s not a problem but sometimes you will have your hand at an odd angle the makes pressing the button at the same time as not causing the device to wander off target, a little hard. On several occasions I had to use my other hand to steady the thing. Remember that a straight line is the shortest distance between two points. If you have the beam at an angle your reading won’t be accurate. A better solution would be an automatic 3 second countdown to triggering the measurement.But overall I’m pleased with this product.

Don’t know how I managed without this! Super easy to use and small and light to carry. Multiple modes and appears to be accurate, although I haven’t checked the accuracy, it’s definitely good enough for sizing up jobs.

This thing is okay but not consistently accurate. I bought it to measure rooms in a new house for furniture and it was fine for that purpose but I wouldn't be using it for building.
