Good quality guard
A very good make of guard, very comfortable, sturdy and flexible, will allow you to move around easy and throw kicks comfortably. Taking advice from another review: buy the size up from what you think you are. I am a 34 inch waist but bought a XL instead of a L and the guard fits comfortably snug.

Krav Maga nut protector
I bought these for Krav Maga training where people seem to like kicking you in the nuts. Yes these look ridiculous when you put them on, are not particularly comfortable and do get a tad hot in the important area when your working out. They will protect you from half hearted or accidental kicks between the legs but if someone goes for it you will be on the floor in agony wishing you'd bought something more heavy duty. That said, they're sufficient for light training and can be chucked in the washing machine afterwards so you'll always arrive at your next training session smelling lovely.
