Is there any seals that are less than 4-6mm width, the one I ordered seems to be quite loose?

First of all is your shower screen glass safety glass, because would have thought that British standards would dictate what the minimum thickness should be!!I would have thought that there should be a seal to accommodate you somewhere. Unfortunately I cannot recommend where you should try as I myself have not experienced the problem you have. The only thing I could suggest is a shower screen specialist. Not your B & Qs, Homebase or Wickes. You might pay a bit more but should get what you want if they have it.

Is the longer side to be on the inside or outside? And why.

The short side goes on the inside and deflects water from the bottom. The longer side then forms the seal against the bath top.
