I read that a couple of people had trouble starting the engine. I use a few 2 stroke machines and you tend to get the knack of starting them. Firstly make sure you use the correct petrol/oil mixture accurately, it's 40/1. You may not need to start it on full choke if it's warm because you may flood the engine. As soon as you pull the chord and the engine nearly starts, put it on half choke. Once the engine starts and after a few seconds put the the choke onto run. You'll get to know the best way to start it.I have a lawns to the back, side and front so basically an average size garden lawns. Although fairly light I think it would benefit from a neck strap for longer use.Engine runs fairly noisy like all two strokes and I notice the head of the engine will rest on the front of your shoulder and that's fine.They could have supplied a mixing bottle as a nice extra and a neck strap but can't complain as they were not advertised. All in all miles better than chorded machines and therefore much quicker to do the job.Notice now they're £15 cheaper than when I bought one, so well worth it at that price.

Not bad for the price! I purchased this Strimmer some two and a half years ago to replace a 17-year old McCulloch 21cc strinnmer which had always given me good service. It had never run right since I purchased it and really I should have returned it! Most of the time the machine would only run on half choke - anything more or lost would cause it to stop running. Altering the slow running screw made not an iota of difference. After the last Winter lay-up I noticed white vapour emerging from the joint between the two halves so stripped the machine down. The rubber seal on the outer ball-race had perished so it was necessary to remove the crankshaft. If the cylinder barrel is removed complete with piston this can be done and keeping the same orientation of the piston. A tool is required to remove the flywheel and is simple to make. As the crankshaft was out I replaced both inner and outer bearings and re-assembled. I had difficulty in starting the strimmer so changed the gaskets and diaphrams. In my opinion the bottom diaphram ( the one which looks like a wheel) had been put in upside-down. I found this out by comparing it with another similar carburettor. Not being satisfied with the engines performance I obtained a splined screwdriver (on-line, no name please) and proceeded to change the settings on the H & L screws. The strimmer has never run better. It now starts with very little choke and a couple of primes of the bulb and all in all is a far better machine.Note, H & L screws - I was always of the opinion that these were set by the assembler but one can do a lot better with care. Good info on-line . Perhaps mine was a friday afternoon one!!!

This seems to be an ok product. I have two other Trimmers more heavy duty and heavy weight to hold. I tested this one and would say it is suitable for light work such as long grass, 'doc weed' stinging nettles. It did manage on heavy grass and strong reeds and moss, but I would not suggest using it for that. So what I'm saying is, it's ok for light work and as it is light weight suitable for ladies and gentlemen to use. Or even old people. Happy customer.

I bought my first McCulloch petrol strimmer about 22 years ago. It finally 'died' last summer so I was looking for a replacement. Unfortunately DIY stores like B&Q only sell electric garden tools, not petrol- powered, but I found this petrol -powered McCulloch strimmer on Amazon for a reasonable price. The first problem is that some assembly is required. The main pole comes in two pieces which have to be rotated and lined up exactly and then pushed together. This is very difficult and requires great strength. I was almost on the point of giving up after many attempts when I finally succeeded. The plastic shield then has to be fitted. This is also very difficult to fit as the photos in the manual are of poor quality and it is difficult to work out which way everything should go. Also, the spanner provided with the strimmer does not fit the nut you have to tighten to fasten the shield. The strimmer works well enough but looks cheaply made. For example, the lever controlling the choke setting on - part on - off is very flimsy. I see Hyundai also do petrol strimmers on sale on Amazon at about the same price and I think these might be a better choice. Edit- February 2024. I have now decided to get an electric strimmer as this device is too difficult to use. The main problem is that you have to pull very hard to start the engine. Also I have never got the bump feed to work properly and the cord is hard to change.

Excellent product l also have a older model but this strimmer is even lighter than the old model which makes it easier to do your garden grass

Very pleased with this petrol strimmer on first impressions. Easy to assemble, easy to start and lightweight. A key feature is that it can be used left-handed or right-handed, unlike some other designs. Another review on Amazon said it was cheaply made - that's not my impression. In fact, as it is light, it would seem less susceptible to accidental damage. Extremely satisfied, so far.It was here within a couple of days of ordering - right at the start of the time window I was given.

Bought because it got good reviews, not just on Amazon, and it was light. First impressions were good, it started fairly easily from cold, starting from even slightly warm required a bit of fiddling with the choke control. Being 2-stroke it is very noisy, ear defenders recommended. Used for just over a year and the lower section of the driveshaft appears to have broken in the tube. Replacement part is around £60 but has to be shipped from Denmark so a long delay. Not too sure if this is a common problem but I’m replacing it with a different one that has a single straight shaft instead.
