Runs XMP 3.0 on Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master
I've been using G.Skill for the past few years on my fastest builds but after the 6600 I had failed I bought this 7200 hoping it would be as good or better and it turns out that it is on 2nd gen Z790.On my original mb, MSI MEG Z790 ACE it did not function in dual channel mode or XMP 3.0 and forced me to place them in unoptimized slots to boot the board. On this 2nd gen Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master it runs at XMP 3.0 dual channel and is fast and stable.Do not buy this memory if you are not running a 2nd gen Z790 or higher chipset.

Fails POST when set to anything higher than 4000 MT/s or enabling XMP
Yeah so.... Pretty much a full upgrade for my rig; i7-14700K, ASUS Z790 board, MSI 4080 Super - and then these things.Cleared POST, memory autodetect set automatically to 4000 MT/s - changed it to 7200 as advertised - now fails POST.Ok then, set to autodetect - back to 4k - now clears POST.Fluke? Restarted, enable XMP, reboot - fails POST again.Disabled XMP, updated BIOS from flash drive, set to 7000 MT/s, fails POST. Put back to autodetect again, enabled XMP - fails POST again. So, functionally, this 7200 MT/s RAM can ONLY run at 4000 MT/s.Pretty sure it's the RAM. Will update review if the replacement fixes it but it's definitely not earning 5 stars from me.UPDATE: Swapped in for a new one; autodetected at 4800 but was able to enable XMP and it set itself to 7200 properly, now everything is running buttery smooth and loading quickly. Would've gotten 5/5 but QC is clearly an issue. Will update when it fails.

Trident Z5 DDR5-7200 - Good Overclocking, Poor Thermals
I am running this Trident Z5 kit at 8000 38-48-48-42 2T stable. I have two additional Trident Z5 8000 kits running stable at 8600. The other two are running the memory on water to tame the ungodly thermals. This one is running on air cooling using the stock heatsinks with a very strong and loud fan blowing on them and they are still ridiculously hot. Two things I find loathsome about modern memory design, and it applies to G.SKILL and their competitors, is the RGB stuff always defaults to an animated RGB rainbow puke clown show and the heatsinks the manufacturers install seem to be functionally worthless and act more like heating blankets. They all generally run cooler as naked modules with nothing on them.Advice for all memory OEMs: get a grip on thermal management and start doing it right, and make the non-RGB kits more common and readily available, or change the default to static white or LEDs off. Customers that want rainbow puke or some other color can install the bloatware needed to control that.G.SKILL Trident Z5 is my first choice for overclocked DDR5 Hynix A-die.Pros:- Great overclocking- Reasonable priceCons:- RGB rainbow puke is disgusting- Heatsinks are aesthetically nice, functionally worthless
