Art of Attack in Chess

Are you ready to win?
A simple question, are you ready to win? If you are then this is your book! You will need to have a basic understanding of chess of the fundamental skills of tactics like Forks, Skewers, Pins, etc. You will need to read the book with a Chess board set up in front of you so you can move the pieces as you read to see it in action. It is a very large book so you will be reading through it for a while. This is quite simply the best book on attacking in chess ever written. Show me a master and I'll show you someone who has read this book and probably still has it in their library at home.As with most books there are a few typos in the book. If you are familiar with reading chess books and chess notation then you will easily spot the errors and know what was intended. This algebraic notation version is the way to go. An updated must have. It is great for club players and beyond. I'd say 1300 - 2300 rated players will all gain from this book. If you are below 1300 (a novice or beginner) that just needs basic fundamentals and concepts rather than deep variations get "The Complete Chess Strategy Guide" by Jeremy Silman. This a great book for beginners that covers Openings, Middlegame, Attacking, Endgames, and more. You can read that book without a board set up in front of you as it's more conceptual than exact move variations.Enjoy.

Disappointed: NOT Algebraic Notation
The content of the book is great! My disappointment lies with the publisher.First, the back of the book SAYS it’s in “algebraic notation” but is is NOT!!! The entire book is in figurine notation. I expected for the book to match its Kindle counterpart (which IS in algebraic notation), but it does not.Second, the print of the text is readable but a bit grainy, as if the whole book is just a photocopy of an earlier edition. There’s a great deal of blank space on the bottom margins compared to the top margin of the pages, again leading me to feel like this is a photocopy of an earlier (NON-algebraic edition). I do not like the back cover saying one thing and the content inside saying another. I’m disappointed in the publisher for this, but I give praise to the author for creating such an outstanding body of work on the art of attack. My rating is based solely on the PUBLISHER defect and false advertisement of notation, not the author nor the content they assembled into this great work.

Great birthday present
I got this book for my 13 year old grandson who likes chess. He is really enjoying the ideas and tips he has found in this book .

very informative, and welll explained
I have recently reviewed a few other chess books here, and along with How To Re-Assess Your Chess, this is the only one of my five recent purchases that I enjoyed and benefitted from. It is one-sided, of course. If you want to know the best way to defend against this or that opening by white, you're outta luck. But it identifies several very useful patterns to watch for, whereby you can knock your opponent for a loop. I felt it improved my game, and was easy enough to understand, for a non-tournament player who probably plays to the 1200 level or so.

Best on the Subject
Indeed, it is invaluable that all attacking chess players grab this book!

Any player should buy this book, should be 6 or 8 stars
This book is a super-classic, though no exercises to test, this does not matter,as this is not just a book of puzzles and so no need to give exercises for you to solve. In fact it is a bible of attack. After reading this book, your attacking power would be much, much improved and when solving those puzzles by John Nunn, Gallagher, combination motifs, manual of combinatioin etc, those previous difficult puzzels you cannot solve, may now be seem to be easy to you!!! Just look the the numerous reprints, so can have an idea how great this book is!!!! Now with the book in Algaebraic system, then there is no excuse not to buy it!!!!!!

Classic for a Reason!
It is a classic for a reason! I was hesitant to get this book at first. Now, I'm glad I got it! I know why a National Master recommend this book to me now.I'd recommend you have knowledge of strategy and basic tactics before going through this book. It's one of those books you'll continue to go back through as you become a stronger chess player.

I like it
I am brand new to chess and got this book on the recommendation of CHESS FOR DUMMIES. If you are at my level (dummy) you will need to have a chess board in front of you and no distractions (kids in bed) as you read this book, since it gives a lot of notation based move orders. I will say I am enjoying it and am reading it every chance I get.

A deep insight into the greates attacking minds in chess
This will seriously improve your tactical eye if you take your time to study the positions. Many players speak of "tactical alert" and I find that I have a better sense of when to sacrifice or play for initiative in a given position now. Pair this book with tactical exercises and you will start to notice a huge improvement in your play.

Excellent training book along with Vukovic's book on Sacrifices
Excellent training book along with Vukovic's book on Sacrifices. It is often quoted in other books including one of my favourites Improve Your Chess Now by Jonathan Tisdall. Improve Your Chess Now
