Great game, if a little stressful at times.
What a fantastic game. I am a bit young to have ever bought the original version, so cannot comment on the quality of the new compared to the old.It seems fine to me now, no better or worse than any other board game in terms of quality.I have only recently learnt how to play, teaching myself by reading the rule book a few times. At first it is a little daunting and confusing but didn't take long to get the hang of it. You can watch YouTube videos if you are more of a visual learner. My only issue would be you don't really get enough "soldier" pieces and the pieces that represent 5 or 10 men are useless really, as you can only "attack" with 3 pieces at a time max, so you are constantly swapping men for the larger pieces. I would prefer more soldiers instead of the larger pieces. It does take 2-4 hours to play, which can be a little stressful sometimes, especially when all your friends gang up on you and decide to destroy your empire!

Brought life back to family/friends nights
the elder generations loved this game in their day, really has put more fun back into family nights rather than sticking to monopoly. new rules in book were a bit unexpected, preferred old ones but guess it was to reduce the time take to finish the game (i remember 6-10 hours days lol) now can do it in 2-4hoursEDITPlaying this for 9 months now, the new rules do not at all ruin the fun the game originally had. The fact that you can finish games quicker, really helps with the extra incentive to play more often, especially when it's already late into the evening and you do not want it to avoid it due to the long hours it used to take with the original rules.Still an amazing game! The Old/Original Rules can be viewed on Hasbro website; http://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/risk1959.pdf

Great game, quality lacking
3.5 out of 5 stars - I recently purchased the Hasbro Risk Board Game as a gift for my friends and family. Overall, I think it's a great game that provides hours of fun and entertainment. However, there were some issues with the quality of the game that made me deduct a few points.Firstly, the pieces are just OK in terms of quality. They're not terrible, but they could be better. The biggest issue is that quite often have bits of extra plastic from the mould which makes them fall over easily on the board.Secondly, the board itself was a bit bent, which made it difficult to play the game as the pieces fall over constantly.Lastly, I found it strange that the standard version of the game was more expensive than the themed ones. It would have been better if they had just one price for all versions.Despite these issues, I still think the game is worth playing and will definitely recommend it to my friends and family

Fantastic Strategy Game
This game arrived last weekend and we spent a brilliant Sunday afternoon playing this game with the whole family. Great to find an alternative to PS3 gaming. The rules were easy to follow and the board and pieces great. My husband who remembered the game from his childhood was cross to see there were no rules to alliances. However we soon decided that this was up to individual preference. The game got quite heated and exciting at times and we had a great time playing together as a family. I think this will become a Sunday afternoon favourite!!!

Great family game, could cause tension in the ranks!
Bought this game for Christmas having heard good things about the older versions, although had never actually played the game before. Was very impressed with the game we were playing with 5 people to begin with and it was a good laugh, although if you are extremely competitive then it could create more tension than harmony!Often played the quick version which still lasted a good 2 hours, first time playing can be a little slow as the rules take some getting used to and strategy is everything but would highly recommend this as a good board for the family.

Marvellous
I have a very old copy of this board game so finding a replacement at a reasonable price proved tricky until I found this one. Service was excellent and the price reasonable, with the product being in immaculate condition. The game is slightly different from the original with the introduction of the 2 player head-to-head, but it makes the game all the more interesting now. A wonderful buy.

A good, strategic game but this version is flawed.
Risk still seems to be in high demand (judging by the high price compared to other board games), a testimony to the game's strategic allure.Whilst this latest version has been simplified a little versus previous editions (fewer cards, fewer territories and only five colours instead of six), the strategic thinking necessary is still the main attraction. The biggest disappointment is the quality of the playing pieces. The board, cards and dice are of decent quality, but the soldiers, cavalry units and cannons are awful. They're very small and really badly made - the plastic is nasty and the overall impression is that they're like something you'd expect to find in a cheap Christmas cracker. If you compare the quality of these to, for example, the counters and houses/hotels you get in Monopoly, Risk comes a poor second. Whilst game-play is king, the tactile element of a game still plays a role in the overall experience.Still, we'll play it reasonably regularly because it is fun. I'd suggest to Hasbro that they consider launching a 'classic' version, with better quality pieces and the missing territories reinstated. If they could do it for, say, an extra tenner, it'd be worth the upgrade.

FANTASTIC - One of the best games I've ever bought
For £20 (in comparison to other game prices) it's fantastic!PROS:Great game, great fun, easy to learn, very simple to play but lots of strategy needed, 2-5 players.CONS:Game can go on forever! (We just set a 1hr time limit or else we sit playing for years for someone to draw 'Cease Fire', and , although only a minor fault, the colours of the different teams of solders are hard to distinguish, dark blue, dark green, grey...OVERALL:Fantastic, a 'must-buy' game.
