Excellent for Video or Stills
As any videographer knows, camera stability is essential for professional quality results, particularly when using a small camcorder or DSLR. Often it is not possible or practicable to set up or even carry a tripod. This is where a monopod comes into it's own.Manfrotto have an excellent reputation for producing quality equipment and so was my choice when choosing a new monopod for video and still photography. Whilst not the cheapest, the quality is up to the usual Manfrotto high standards.I opted for the 3 telescopic section (i.e.3 clip) version although a 4 section version is available. The fluid head works well and is big enough to support any size camera securely. Be aware that the supplied fluid head only tilts, panning is achieved by rotation of the whole pole section from the ball at it's base. Some people prefer to pay extra for the full tilt/pan head, but, I find the supplied head works well for me. This will be an individual choice, but I recommend trying the original head before spending extra. The ball at the base of the monopod is easily locked enabling the monopod to stand upright, unsupported, on its 3 base legs. I wouldn't recommend leaving it unattended with an expensive camera fitted! Whilst not the lightest monopod available, something to bare in mind if intending to put in your flight luggage, it provides excellent stability and allows various slider type effects when filming. I would recommend watching some of the videos on YouTube to see how versatile these monopods can be and some of the filming effects possible. The monopod comes with a wrist strap fitted, an excellent confidence booster when your expensive DSLR is fitted to the top and the adjustable arm off the fluid head helps provide smooth movement and stability to your video footage.

Sturdy - but no replacement for a tripod.
It's well designed and, with the correct quick release/attach head, quite practical. however, not to be confused with or replace a Tripod.Good in restricted spaces, but don't let go...

A classic, reimagined
I had a Manfrotto monopod, a long serving friend, until stupidity / forgetfulness / US customs ended up with it being left in New York, and insurance didn’t cover it. The original model was similar to the current model, but the older one had a foam neck - more like a sponge for blood, sweat and tears! While it served me well, this latest model has all the mod cons, including a new rubber neck for wipe-clean functionality, more stable feet, and the ability to unscrew to make a single foot monopod. It still provides commendable balance for D-SLR cameras, including while extended to a higher height, although unless well balanced, shouldn’t be left unattended - at all, or with heavier lenses attached to your camera. For stills: This is your reliable friend, a supporting foundation on which you can balance, and to some degree, lean upon. The clasps at each section feel upgraded too, with the tension clamps feeling like a noticeable and more friendly upgrade to secure your desired height. For video, the tilt and pan is fluid, but you absolutely must adjust for the base sitting into the shoe as it isn’t at a consistent 90 degrees to the ground and your horizon level may drift, particularly in dark locations. Great for b-roll, less so for a main angle, and a snap-on plate means you can lock and load and secure with a twist in swift motion.Brilliant for solo shooters, though not an option to leave unattended like a sturdy tripod. Add this to your tripod setup and you’ll be delighted.

Built quality is perfect
If you are working in a fast paced shooing environment, then this is a product for you. It took me no time all to adjust from a regular tripod to this monopod. The monopod head works perfectly well with a DSLR, mirrorless and lighter video cameras. This monopod is a definite must-have as a creative tool. Once you get familiar with it, it offers some cool movements which no tripod can do. And of course its footprint is super small making it perfect for crowded environments

This monopod as a monopod is very good. So if this is the only reason you are buying it then you are good to go. Good monopod. If this was the end of the review id say 4 stars. But if you are thinking to buy it cos it can double up as another slider head then think again. The tripod head that comes with this monopod does not have the screw at the back which adjusts the level of left or right pans that you can do. Or the lock that it can do for those pans. It is without it and basically comes locked. It seems you can open a little compartment in the middle and use a the hexagon screw drivers to undo it. But it is so stiff and its in such an awkward place that this was impossible. This led to me having to screw it on my slider with trial and error cos every time it would finish at the right place. If you want a monopod and a head that can work with it, but also work as a head for a slider then buy monopod and fluid head seperately and join em that way. This will give you the controls for the panning left and right.

Great support for guerrilla filming
I purchased this monopod for a trip to Malawi where I was shooting film and stills in the field. This is an ideal support for the cameras I was using (Nikon D750 & Canon C100 mk2). It's very quick to use, light, sturdy and above all it just does what it's supposed to. It also has the benefit of steadying up hand held shots for filming if you shorten the leg, adding a little heft and inertia thus absorbing some of the bumps. I really like, it. If there was one tiny criticism (and this is probably just teething issues with me) it's that the resistance for panning is slightly too heavy, but this can be adjusted by an Allen key apparently, which of course I forgot to pack. Great support for guerrilla filming.
