I love, LOVE this little gadget – it is quiet and very effective….and I only realised how much I loved it when I stopped using it!I bought it, believe it or not, for my much-beloved cat whom we thought was suffering from allergies at the time. I really felt that it helped ease his breathing…some days he’d be poorly and lie under the bed. Couple of hours with the PureMate on, he’d come back downstairs – his regular, always-hungry, self. As it turned out, it wasn’t an allergy but a massive tumour at the back of his nose and he didn’t wake from the endoscopy. Broken-hearted, I packed the machine away a few weeks later. Woke up during the night sneezing my head off and I realised that I’d been thoroughly enjoying the effects of the ioniser too. I appear to be way less allergic to my new little kitten and I’ve not suffered hayfever AT ALL this year. And I have SUFFERED in the past. In fact, it only occurred to me that it WAS hayfever season when I saw another chap on the train suffering horribly! I can’t fault the machine at all – works beautifully, I love the 'scent' that it seems to give off and, other than the occasional fzzzzl, it’s virtually soundless. It certainly wouldn’t bother even the lightest of sleepers.And I can’t fault PureMate’s customer service either. Woke up in the middle of the night a few days ago bunged up and needing an antihistamine. Immediately checked the unit and it seemed it wasn’t working. Emailed the PureMate team and within half an hour I had a response – suggesting that the unit might need a clean and they gave me instructions. Cleaned the machine that evening and got a few weak fzzzls out of it but nothing much…it got me through the night but needed an antihistamine in the morning. Emailed the PureMate team saying I believed the unit broken. As I’d lost all the paperwork, I’d no idea about whether it had a guarantee or not. No worries though - the PureMate team replied right away saying to dispose of the old unit and they were dispatching a new unit right away.It arrived yesterday ….had a BRILLIANT night’s sleep and woke all clear this morning. I LOVE the gadget and I’m THOROUGHLY impressed by PureMate’s customer service – second to none!

I bought this because I have hayfever, and also have a room which is a bit on the musty side. I expected, and got clear air.The unit arrived with a mains plug in power lead, or it can be used in a car with a lead which plugs into the cigarette lighter (and would be particularly useful if you have a smoker in the car, and other occupants who become queasy when there is cigarette smoke in the air).There are two settings: high and low, controlled by a slider switch.The power light is green, so not as disruptive as units with a blue light can be.It comes with a set of vanilla scent beads - I've not used these and don't plan to.This makes literally no sound. The air it produces does have a slightly metallic (to my nose) smell, almost a "prickly" scent. If it feels really prickly, I put it on the low setting.I sleep with it on, just by my head. I don't find it at all disturbing for my sleep.I just wish I'd got it years ago, and I am intending to invest in another one. Highly recommended.

Works perfect in the bedroom although the lights need to be covered as I like a pitch black room. Running this all night stopped my brain doing it's usual back flips and weird internal brain noises, helped me sleep and I wake up in a better mood!Downsides - very slight smell, but then all ionisers have that, I dont find it offensive though some might as is a tad metalic, minor down side is the matt black finish seems to be a form of soft felting material that is nice to the touch but easily damaged and easily marked with fine dust - in my opinion it would have been better with a smooth non felt coating.That said I am running it for a week and probably will by the bigger one for the lounge as the room is bigger and though I am switching rooms with this one at the minute and it copes well in the bigger room, I have concerns about wear and tear due to moving.I would recommend anyone who has fitful sleeping patterns to try this, everyone's different but in nearly 60 years this is the only thing that has helped me (though it does seem to create vivid dreams for me)!

I've had ionisers in my home for the last 35 years, they really do work. Electrical devices leave charged ions in the air which dust and particles cling to. These devices neutralise the static and thus the dust (or something like that!) . They do tend to draw the dust towards themselves and you will notice a dirty wall/cupboard or whatever around the device. Which a)shows its working and b) cleans off with a quick wipe. This unit works beautifully and comes with some scented vanilla crystals that you put in a litle recess. I've not tried them yet but I might give it a go at some future date.

The PureMate is a quiet and unassuming product, I instantly noticed an effect after adding in the potent vanilla beads that come with the product. There was a noticeable difference in the smell of the air surrounding the PureMate. However, the device is smaller than conventional purifers and it's difficult to assess how much air in a room is actually purified. But, there was a very bad smell of wood varnish in my flat and I think the PureMate with a combination of plug in fresheners have really helped me out. Also no annoying filter needs to be removed all the time!To be honest when I saw the product I assumed it was a going to be a waste of time but it's fine for the price. I would just suggest you try it, you can read as many reviews as you like but you'll only know if you use it in your own environment! As every reviewer on here has different issues and expectations of the product.
