You may have received one that has been returned. Mine came with cellophane on the front and back glass panels. As long as it works you should be good. Use it for a week and see

Q: Does this have to be connected to the hvac to cover the 2,000 sq feet? if so, how large of an area will it cover not connected?

Only the room it is located in. I hooked mine under the the house to the hvac. I found that if you close off the the first register it will carry through out the house better. My home is a two story cape cod transitional just under 2000 and it covers the upstairs and downstairs nicely. I would recommend putting it on grade 8. The oil lasts longer than what the app says. It is so nice coming home after work and walking in to a home that is fresh. I use an another brand oil from the Cromwell Vegas hotel collection and get a lot of compliments. Jcloud sent me a spring time scent that smells good out of the bottle so I will try that next. If this keeps working it is so much better than the annoying plugins.
