The Complete ElfQuest Volume 4

Elfquest Vol. IV: Good, not great
It's hard to review this because if you are an Elfquest fan then you know in your heart this is not comparable to the earlier work. At the most basic level only the last 3 of 22 chapters were drawn by the incomparable Wendi Pini and then the story is full of clichéd plot contrivances. That said for true fans of EQ this volume is still worth purchasing and the artwork is much better than people have been giving it credit for. The illustrations in all but 4 of the chapters was penciled in by Brandon McKinney with inks by a variety of different artists. Here are the contents of the book with minor spoilers:-Hidden Years parts 10-15 (also called shards part 1-6): Picks up immediately after the Cutter and Rayek Duel in the previous volume and ends when the Elfin tribe decides to split up with Ember and 9 others setting out to search for a new holt while Cutter and the rest of the gang stay to fight off a brutal human foe and restore the Palace of the High Ones.-Shards parts 1-16: Ember’s story continues in the next volume of the Complete Elfquest while we continue to follow Cutter in this “Shards” story arc. Lots of mayhem and foul magic abound.I noticed there is a misprint on the amazon page which says this volume is 492 pages long, actually it is a full 592 excluding the gallery pages so it is quite a hefty volume, just a bit longer than Vol. II which contained the full "Siege at Blue Mountain" and "Kings of the Broken Wheel" sagas.

Classic Issues
This latest volume of Elfquest comics collects the Hidden Years #10 -15 and Shards # 1- 16 series, all of which comprise one of the longest storylines ever for Elquest. At this point in the 90’s the main story broke off into two different series. Cutter, the protagonist and leader of the Wolfriders, headed this one, while his daughter Ember created her own tribe of Elves and became the central figure for the remainder of the Hidden Year’s run. Those will be put into the next volume. The story here is much more violent than your standard Elfquest title and, while the series is not known from shying away from violence, this series is a protracted siege of events, with a warband of wolfriders storming a human citadel during a civil war to reunite the shattered shards of the Palace of the High Ones. There are more character deaths in this story than in the last thirty issues combined.

Great read!
Great storyline and character arc. Makes me look forward to the next installment. Don't want to spoil anything but lots of interesting twists. A must read if you've read previous Elfquest books.

Thank you Richard, and Wendy.
I have been a fan of the elfquest series since the 80's. May it go on as long as possible, I will be there till the end.

The most epic quest
The shards ark was probably the most intense in the whole series thus far. The wolf riders practically fight anything and everything as anything and everything is thrown there way as they try to reclaim The shards of the palace

40 Years of Pointed Ears continues!
I've been reading Elfquest for years, and was grateful to be able to fill in the gaps with this omnibus. It's high quality, with stellar reproductions of the original art. So very glad to have this for my collection.

Exactly what I was looking for.
This is a great series that I had started reading as a kid. Found out the series had continued when looking at books for nostalgia. Very pleased these adventures are continuing.
