Drastic Plastic pt 2 without the guitar solos!
After the release of the Be Bop Deluxe catalogue in these fantastic box sets i was hoping they were going to move forward with this the Red Noise box and here it is finally. having grown bored of being tagged a "Guitar Hero" bill decided to withdraw from it, hence an album devoid of such things and taking the energy of a punk rocker along with the soon to be full on new wave movement produced this. i saw them once live and he would always say Be Bop couldn't play this stuff, Seriously! it comes off as the previous album only faster and to some extent without the song, not that i'm knocking it but drastic plastic, a very diversive album at the time, still stands up today and in fact i personally feel gets better with the years. For the content of the box you get postcards, a Poster an book with a lot of great pics of the band, 4 cds and 2 Dvd in a high res format, the new remix has opened it up no end and this would be my version of choice but the original is still there, a disc of Bills home demos show how close to the album versions his demos are there is also a few unreleased track as well as the b-sides to the single and finally you get a live disc recorded at leicester in 79, my only letdown is the sheffield gig which has been going round for decades now with a much rawer performance is not included. if you have any interest in bill nelson between his be bop and his later musical journey this is well worth a revisit although would you put it as one of his best, i have doubts but at least we can judge for ourselves, my next question would be where are esoteric records going to go with regarding bills solo years? i hope we are in for an interesting ride

Bill Nelson’s Red Noise in One Place
Officially Bill Nelson’s Red Noise discography was just one album and two singles, add in the demos for the album, videos from their appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test, a recording from the only tour and 51 mixes of the whole album & b-sides you end up with these 6 discs. With only a small discography to draw from there’s a lot of repetition but each iteration offers something new.The 5.1 mixes are fairly conservative with use of the surrounding, no whacky panning which is good because the music doesn’t need it. The new mixes have given the sound a nice buff up without being overly loud or plastic sounding. In a world where six CD boxes can cost well into three figures this 10” book format is well presented and worth the money.

A rip off
A complete rip off. Two of the 6 discs are DVDs, the other 4 could all go onto a single disc, a lot of repeats.
