Crushes it!
My dog has esophageal dysmotility and can’t lap up water. We used crushed ice for a while, but when she had trouble with that, we went to shaved ice. She really likes it and it keeps her hydrated. Makes great snowcones, too.

As described
My daughter wanted this so I bought it as a surprise. She loves it. She makes slushes for herself and her family. Her only complaint, KitchenAid doesn’t sell extra ice trays. You can buy generic ones

Decent for home shaved ice
The media could not be loaded. It’s more like fine/thin and flat ice crystals. It was easy to assemble and was intuitive for use. I like that it won’t take up much space for storage. The kids enjoyed it very much!

I love this attachment!
The media could not be loaded. I love this attachment! My family and I love snow cones. I previously bought a Hawaiian manual crank ice shaver. I really do love the ice that the manual crank produces, but it is a pain in the butt to crank out enough ice for a family of 4. So I started searching for an economical, electric ice shaver. I found one for $30 that was pretty good, the only thing is the ice shavings were too thick; you have to bite the ice to crush the bits. So I returned it and couldn’t find any other electric one that met my price point and had good reviews. That’s when I started looking into the more expensive ones and came across this one. I have a KitchenAid mixer and I do love their attachments, but they are so expensive! Regardless, I opted to buy this one because for the price, it wasn’t too far off from all the other electric ice shavers and it was small enough to easily store. Let me start with the ease of use: it is extremely easy to use and set up. You freeze the ice mold that it comes with, remove the ice, turn the switch to lift the spring, load the ice, close it, and turn it on. That’s it! It comes with 2 blades, fine and coarse and 4 ice molds. I’ve read a bunch of reviews complaining that the molds break easily. I haven’t had any issues with my molds. Here are some tips that might help avoid them cracking or breaking: I don’t over fill the molds with water (there’s a fill line/ indicator), I remove them from the freezer and let them sit for a few minutes before I grab one and run it upside down under some cold water, give it a tap on the bottom and it pops right out with no issues. Also, KitchenAid has started selling replacement molds, which they apparently didn’t do before. I purchased a pack of 4 extra molds. The reason I purchased extra is cause to be honest, the molds are small. I use tiny 5 oz cups to make my snow cones and I can fill about 5 tiny cups from one ice mold and that’s not enough. Everyone always wants 2nds so I always have to shave 2 molds to get enough ice for the family. If I wanted to make 4 regular sized cups of snow cones, I’d probably have to shave all 4 ice molds. So now I can freeze 8 molds at a time. I always have a huge ziplock of ice molds that I’ve made, ready to go. So far, I really don’t have any complaints about this attachment. My only complaint would be that I wish the ice was shaved finer. Other than that, I have no other complaints. It literally shaves ice in seconds.

Easy to Use and Results are Delicious!
The media could not be loaded. After having fabulous shaved ice on our trip to Japan, we wanted to recreate the treats we enjoyed there at home. We looked at every shaved-ice machine Amazon sells and finally settled on this attachment for our KitchenAid blender. It was a little more expensive than some of the standalone machines, but it’s a name we trust. It arrived very well packed in a box we can store the attachment and its parts in. The instructions were easy to follow and the parts were marked for easy assembly. It is somewhat loud, but it’s shaving ice, so that’s to be expected. We’ve only used the fine blade so far and the results were awesome: the same light, fluffy shaved ice we enjoyed on our trip. We even made our own matcha syrup, although American condensed milk doesn’t have the same consistency as the Japanese kind. Oh well! We will be buying more syrups at our kids’ request because we will definitely be using this regularly. One important note: it comes with four plastic, lidded molds in which to freeze water or whatever you want to turn into shaved ice. These take 12 to 24 hours to completely freeze into the “pucks” to use with the attachment. Once out of the freezer, you are supposed to leave it out at room temperature to “temper” it prior to shaving. Well, we haven’t tried this yet. We used regular ice cubes from our freezer that we placed in two layers inside the attachment’s cup… and it worked PERFECTLY. Possibly better, because we were able to refill it quickly three additional times to get the volume we wanted for one serving, then repeat for a second serving for my son. That would’ve been 8 molded ice pucks. I suppose you can buy more molds, but I definitely don’t have room in my freezer for more molds. I had to clear out a flat space for the four molds that came with this. Ice cubes work fine… don’t let the answers to asked questions on the sales page throw you. And if you have a KitchenAid mixer, this is the only shaved-ice machine you’ll ever need.
