Great for long visits
I would give it 5 stars but I need information for quick cruise stops at the different islands. What to do in 2 to 5 hours. This book looks great for visitors staying in hotels and having time to research different restaurants and hotels on the different islands. Very concise.

The One Caribbean Book to Get
I recently purchased the following books for specific Caribbean areas: Cayman Islands; Tahiti & French Polynesia; Turks & Caicos Islands; St Maarten/Martin, St Barth/Barts & Anguilla (two different books, each covering the same region); and the US & British Virgin Islands. I also bought this book ("Essential Caribbean"). The latter is the only of these books that I kept. I donated the others. This book is a little on the heavy side, but not too thick or too heavy for a carry-on. Its 960 pages are thin, keeping down the thickness of the book, but they seem durable enough for good usage.I originally had one area in mind for a vacation. So I bought a guide for that. Then I considered other areas and bought more books. Finally, I bought this book. You might want to purchase this book first. It covers a large portion of what the other individual books cover. And it opens up alternatives for an upcoming vacation as well as providing ideas for future vacations.

Good general review
Good book if looking for basics or to decide which island to visit. However, if you know a specific island or city, I would buy a more specific book. Warning: some islands aren't listed and defer to Fodor's online service. Check the index before buying. All the most prominent islands are listed.

Mediocre
Purchased these books for many years. This one does not seem to have many updates since the last edition. Information is useful.

Get out your magnifying glass!
The print is SO small—have to use a magnifying glass to read. Too bad because Fodor usually has great travel guides!
