Great value, great quality
After having a fight with my work printer for a few hours. I gave up and ordered this one. My main reason for purchasing this model was due to the amount of ink I had on hand that the old printer used. I looked for a new printer that took the same ink. When I saw the price on this one I was sold, I needed this printer. The printer works just fine. I use 4inkjet cartridges in it so I will get my money out of this printer even if it only lasts a few years. I do run a lighter weight paper through it currently because that's what I have on hand and it will every now and then put a wrinkle in the paper when it pulls it through to print. I'm not sure why it does that but for what I print that has no impact. The stuff I print is packing slips, invoices, and prints. This is a great economy printer for your everyday needs. I would recommend this to anyone who has everyday printing.

STOP INTERNET SABOTAGE
The EPSON printer is not the problem, the EPSON customer service and internet sabotage is the problem. I purchased this printer on Jan 11, 2018. It set up with no problem and printed like a gem. However, after printing several pages I was already receiving messages that the black ink cartridge was low. On Feb. 11 I decided to order a set of generic ink cartridges. In mid-February I replaced the black ink cartridge with a generic cartridge. There were no issues with set up and I printed on several different occasions since then with no issue. On April 8 I went to scan an item, and had to go through the set up process, this triggered an Epson software/hardware update. I instantly got an error message saying that the printer didn't recognize the black ink cartridge. I think EPSON is running a scam. My printer obviously operated fine with the generic ink cartridges until I allowed for the EPSON update at which time the cartridge was recognized as generic and my printer was disabled.I went to EPSON tech support page and tried their fixes. I sent in my concern and got this response:"Thank you for contacting Epson regarding your Epson XP-440. I am sorry that you are having difficulties with your printer. In reviewing your incident, it appears that you have opened one/some of our online knowledge base articles to help you in resolving this issue. Please be advised that in order to further isolate the issue, you need to use a genuine Epson ink cartridges. Epson does not recommend refilling or using other brands of ink cartridges. Using these products will not void the product's original warranty; however, if these products cause a failure, the repair of that failure will not be covered under warranty.Answer ID: 28358If you have a different support issue, submit a request via our U.S. Support Site and we will respond in a timely manner.Thank you again for contacting Epson."I don't find this to be very good customer service. I shared this issue with several IT people in my building. They confirmed my suspicion that my printer can be disabled via "internet updates." EPSON can recognize when an ink cartridge is not an EPSON product and can send a "block" to disable the product. This is so wrong, what right does EPSON have to disable my property? This is internet sabotage.I will be spreading the news that EPSON is not a reputable company. This has to be illegal, this action is no less than EPSON sending some goon into my house and smashing my printer into tiny pieces. I have forwarded this concern on to the better business bureau and the Kansas Attorney General. I encourage others with similar experiences to do the same.

Excellent little printer!
No the printer is not useful in a busy office, however in my home it serves 3+ people who manage to create letters and graphic designs. These printers cost little in of themselves. The largest portion of their cost is in individual cartridges of ink. By using the 288XL version you an save by clicking on B & W for most jobs. I have previously owned two other Epson printers. Mine died after 2 years of indiscriminate printing. It copies, scans, and prints. If you hav e Alexa you can also have a standing order for replacement inks. I do not refill the ink cartridges as some do. Neither do I clean the print head regularly. This process also consumes ink. The printer is easy to set up and use. I'm older than many around me and set it up by myself. That being said I also am a retired office employee for a major corporation. I am picky about getting a very good printed page every time, the first time for each document.

Simple to set-up, basic printer for home use.
Inexpensive all-in-one printer for basic needs. Don't over think what a $50 printer/scanner/copier is supposed to be. This was easy to set up via Wi-Fi and being able to wirelessly print from your iPhone is an added bonus. Everything works well and it is compact, as well was lightweight. Some other reviews have stated "the ink cartridges cost more than the printer" and that is true unless you upgrade to either Epson's Eco-tank printers or you buy a professional quality level. If the ink cartridge price bothers you, then order a brand new printer every time a cartridge runs out. I just needed a basic Epson for routine work and being able to scan/copy. When it comes to doing photo work, I buy a professional level in wide-format.

Very happy
It does its job, buying the spare cartridges, because I'll run out at the worst moment was OK, just over $50 for a pack of all 4 - I think. I don't do a lot of printing, so this works for me. If you're doing a lot of printing then it goes without saying that this may not be the one for you.The wireless set up was easy, I was printing inside 10 minutes - my biggest problem was deciding where to put it and the software download - all of a minute at most! Not fully testedall of its functions, but it has met and out performed some my expectations. Low volume printing - this is your baby.

Disappointed
Epson has always been at the top of print quality on my list when I go shopping for a printer. This printer, however beautiful results, is sucking me dry replacing ink cartridges. I print an average of 15-20 pages a week, most are black and white/grayscale plans for wood working projects. If a color cartridge gets low enough for the printer to think it’s near empty NOTHING can be done until that cartridge(s) will have been replaced. You can’t cancel the color job and then try and print your document in grayscale. The printer is fixated (blinded may be a better word here) on the “low ink” cartridge. I’m just very dissatisfied and disappointed in owning this printer. Guess I’ll be bypassing what used to be my “go to” brand of printer and scoping out the HPs and Canon printers and the cost of their replacement cartridges.
