PNY M280CS2140-1TB-RB M.2 NVMe Gen4 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I installed this 1TB SSD in my ASUS TUF 17 after moving the original 500 GB SSD to the other slot. The ASUS computer has one Gen 3 and one Gen 4 slot. The original SSD is a Gen 3, but comes installed in the Gen 4 slot, so it's advantageous to move it and install this PNY Gen 4 SSD in the Gen 4 slot of the computer. After installing it it's necessary to use the hard disk tools to initialize and format the new SSD, then the computer will recognize it. After that it started up and ran slow at first while the computer reloaded the cache and recognized the new hardware. Once this was done it runs very fast and I'm happy with the new storage.

There are people who are very concerned about buying only the "best" hardware resources for their computers. It is hard to determine what is the best, or even, who made what you are buying. I am not using this SSD as a mission critical part. Therefore getting a known, longstanding, industry brand name, at a great price, was perfect. It was installed a couple months ago, and has worked as intended. Faster than the other hard drives it is being used with, so definitely not a bottleneck in the system.

Great performance at a great price

Surprisingly fast 500 GB M2 NVME SSD for the price. I have purchased many PNY products (M2 NVME, micro-SD cards, flash drives) and have never had a failure in over 5 years. Good solid products that are not always the fastest but very dependable at a reasonable price.

My Dell G7 7790 came with a 256GB M.2 NVM drive for the OS and a 1TB mechanical drive for storage.The boot drive was running low on space and slow by today standards.I decided to use the 2GB version of this drive and it works flawlessly after installing it.It does seem to run a lot faster than my old drive.I used the trial version of Macrum Reflect to clone the old drive to the new drive and it worked with no issue.When you clone to the new larger drive make sure to use the setting to increase the size of your C: drive or it will not have the space available.The only issue I had after cloning was the windows 10 Bitlocker locked my D: hard drive until I entered the key.I highly recommend using this drive as an upgrade

It came with a usb adapter rather than a screw for m.2 ssd. Kind of a bummer😕. Cheap good ssd though. Thanks Amazon.

Our son's SSD was only 512GB and with all his games and other stuff he was running low. We got him this one which should last for a good amount of time. For less critical data he can have one of the unused 3TB HDDs. Supposedly the gen4 NVMe in combination with Windows 11 has a significant advantage via DirectStorage, i.e. instead of decompressing gaming data on the CPU it loads them compressed onto the GPU where they will be decompressed. With the NVidia 3080 in the system this should be fairly quick. However, not many games support it yet. But at least with this SSD it should work fine. Btw, it's not the fastest Gen4 on the market but still really fast.

Performs well, great budget option.
