A must read if you are trying to learn or improve freestyle
I purchased this book AFTER buying various TI DVD's - and having the combined written technique recommendations made a huge difference in my swimming overnight. Now, don't get me wrong I'm not one of those people who magically can swim 3 miles after watching a dvd or reading the book - but it truly enhanced my ability to be weightless in the water, and thus improved my whole attitude about swimming. The book does a great job explaining why we "struggle" in the water, and some simple technique changes to fix that, which results in being less tired. I am all about being less tired - and THIS really works. I recommend a combination of this book, and the TI DVD for Perpertual Motion freestyle in 10 lessons -- and you won't be disappointed (unless you prefer to pay money for a coach to be in the water with you). The video is for the self coached mentality, and a person who has some discipline and passion to improve.

If you have not read any of the author's earlier works then this is a good place to start. Information presented is more concise and to the point.All the swimming styles are discussed as opposed to just the front crawl. The photos were much more helpful than the line drawings in the other books. A good book for those starting out on this system of swimming; very useful for those who have already embarked on the TI way of more efficient swimming.Definitely a good self help book for those who want to swim more efficiently (NB: I am not associated with TI in any commercial way)

Changed My Life!
I have been a swimmer my entire life. I am 60. For the first time EVER! I am swimming hours, not laps. Hour's. It's as though I have no level of exhaustion. This manner of swimming will change the 'struggle' to remain on top of the water, to gracefully parting through the water, without a sense of panic. For people who struggle to swim as adult's this is the answer. It will change your manner of swimming for life. Just this week, I swam and hour and a half. Not counting laps, not counting strokes. When I exited the pool I felt as though I'd been on a long stroll! This is life changing, not just exercise.

Practical guideline of how to become a fish
Instant improvement in the swimming pool, very hard to believe in at first. This book will not only improve your technique, but also set a foundation for understanding of your movement through water. The philosophy of relaxed gliding with minimum drag and maximum efficiency can be fun to practice in other areas outside the swimming pool.At one point, after counting my strokes and being confused by the result, I wondered if Terry is actually a fish?

A TOTAL IMMERSION-SWIMMING
The TERRY LAUGHLIN books for people who like to swim are a big help. I learned to swim on my own and being able to read the instructions on what "real swimmers" do will help anyone who wants to exercise with less pain or perspiring!

Great book
I refer to this book often as a swim coach. I use it as a training guide and it provides a great list of drills to help advance the swimmers. Great swimming style.

100% recommend this book. The swimming technique changed my swimming completely and I couldn't be happier!

Very helpful book
Very helpful book for people who want to get better at swimming. All swimming/Tri coaches should implement Terry's method. He wins his age group every time he races

Useful
Very good but not an enormous improvement on the previous book. i was hoping for new material but found that most of the contents repeat stuff from the earlier book.
