Q: Do these damage luxury vinyl plank?

No, they are not super-adhesive. Just sticky enough to not slide. You can easily remove them for washing and then put back.

Q: Does the sticky come off after washing?

Haven't wash them yet. Stay looking good with weekly vacuum.

Q: The treads come folded creating a crease. The crease does not lay flat. Does anyone have a fix without uninstalling and folding the opposite direction

Encountered same, just lay out flat for a week, I actually placed under a large throw rug for a week. Yes a pain but worked. Also start at the crease when laying down, not ideal but again works.

Q: Do they mess up varnish on wooden stair treads?

The bottom isn't an adhesive...more like a cling wrap surface that adheres to the stair. They stay in place surprisingly well and my stairs seem fine.
