Camera microscope
To be clear, I am reviewing this item from a hobby electronics stand point, these are my own views and I bought this item with my own money. This is a good addition to my bench to help my old eyes see small components.I am very pleased overall with the unit but it does have some limitations which can be awkward to work with.As an assembly it is compact an fairly stable, the screen is big enough and has good clarity.Zoom is controlled by simply raising or lowering the camera and this model has 3 illumination sources. The options on the unit are accessed via a small wired remote, this is a great touch in my opinion as it reduced the risk of jogging or wobbling the unit should you want to record video or take pictures.Focus is controlled via a twist ring but once set you should only need to adjust if you change zoom.Things to be aware of,The working space is fairly limited, it also gets worse the more you zoom in.It can be a bit trick to solder in this position, purely due to the fact you are using both eyes on a screen. There is little to no depth perception when working in this manor and hand eye coordination is a bit like working in a mirror. If you wish to use this unit to investigate a circuit in a device, this isn't the machine for you. This device does output to a screen such as a pc or laptop and setup is very easy with Microsoft built in webcam software, options are limited and output from the device is not as advertised being 720p at best which leads me to believe that's all it is on the inbuilt screen. That said, the picture was fine if a bit grainy on my 43 inch tv screen. A monitor may look a bit better. The built in lens light is fairly poo, it is adjustable but I find I need to run it flat out and it could do with being brighter. The adjustable accent lights are fairly useless, the idea is to introduce side lighting to reduce shadow from the lens light, which they do but have to be very close. This is a hindrance for me and the positioning method is feeble. The never really stay where you want them.If you need a solution for close up inspection of stamps, insects or coins for example with the option to photograph close up then this is for you. Or maybe a cheaper version without the bug eye lights? If, like me you are a hobby electronics type then consider what you are working on. If it is small boards with surface mount components, then you should be able to adapt to using this. For soldering in such a scenario you really need a duel eye microscope which will cist considerably more.If it's for looking into actual devices like old amps or radios then something on a boom arm or one of the really cheap cigar style cameras mounted to some sort of arm may work better. This one claimed to have the best resolution at this price point around £100 I'm not convinced any of them are exactly what they say resolution wise so I wouldn't go up to the £150 variants but the 50 to 60 range may be the same. The unit offers a choice of 2 iso settings which frankly made no difference, you can see digital noise on screen while using the device, which again leads me to believe the quoted definition range is made up.Overall, I'm happy with it as I didn't have any great expectations of the specs listed. I feel its actually better than I thought it would be.Assembly is easy the base and column are metal. The unit is battery powered from an internal battery. Charging is usb but no lead or charger is provided. Also this unit requires an SD card up to 32gb to function and at this price point one not being provided was a real let down. Too be clear it won't work without the memory card in the slot!
