Sharpening stones, or whetstones, are abrasive surfaces used to sharpen and hone the edges of steel cutting implements, such as chisels, knives, scissors, hand scrapers, and plane blades. Sharpening is the process of creating or re-establishing a cutting edge by grinding away portions of the metal to adjust the angle of the edge and reform the shape. Honing removes small imperfections. Stones can be flat, for working flat edges, or shaped, for edges that are more complex. When used with lubricating liquid, a sharpening stone can be called a waterstone or an oilstone, based on the lubricant required. Oilstones use sharpening stone oil for lubrication when sharpening, to prevent metal from bonding with the abrasive surface by flushing away dislodged abrasive and metal chips.Norton Abrasives manufactures sanding, grinding, and polishing abrasives, and has been located in the United States since 1885. Norton, now a brand of Saint-Gobain, meets ISO 9000 and 14001 certification for quality and environmental management standards. From the Manufacturer To make your sharpening job easier, try Norton Sharpening Stone Oil. Specially formulated for all types of metal. Norton sharpening stone oil is a natural, highly refined light mineral oil. It is a pharmacopia grade oil so it is safe for use on kitchen tools. My sharpening corner just got a serious upgrade.
Snagged this Norton Knife Sharpener Stone Oil – gotta keep the whole kit locked and loaded, ya know? This 4.5 oz can is gonna be clutch for keepin' my stones smooth and ready to rock. It's in a cool little tin can, which is kinda old-school and dig it. Plus, it's made in Mexico, represent! Haven't actually slicked up my stones with it yet, but you just know this is the good stuff to get that proper edge.If you're serious about keepin' your blades sharp and your sharpening game strong, you gotta have the right oil. This Norton stuff looks like it's gonna do the trick. Can't be caught slippin' with dull tools, feel me? This oil's a must-have for the serious sharpener. This is my second purchase of this oil. This review represents my personal opinion and experience with this product. perfect stone oil
I've been using this for cutting fluid and honing oil for some pistol work I've been doing and it works great. It works exactly as I would expect it to. It was reasonably priced and does a good job preventing my stones from getting loaded up with metal. Very pleased. I will buy more when this is gone.

Easy to use, plenty here for your needs
4/5 ounces of oil for the stone is a lot. This is made by the same folks who make the stone and it's perfect for that use. Highly refined, light-weight oil keeps your stone oiled and ensures a great sharpening experience.Cap seals and I have seen zero leaks at all (always a concern with products like this) - so great job on the container design as well.

Usability
I'm an amateur when comes to sharping a knife! I purchased a sharping stone and was told I would need oil to sharpen my knives. I did research on what oil was the best to use and Norton stone sharping oil had the best reviews. It's a bit pricey, but I purchased it! I just got it today and haven't had time to use it yet! I'll give an update once I use it.

Essential for oil stones
This is an easy and convenient way to apply quality oil to your oil stones for sharpening knives and other tools. The size of can, and fine tip make it perfect for applying the right amount of oil. Keep the can, and refill it as needed from larger bottles or cans later.

Very good mineral oil.
Quality mineral oil for oil stones. The steel shavings just wipe off the stone. Use it liberally and the stone will last for years.
