waffle split and stick to the surface
I updated my review. I raise my review to more stars.I emailed the manufacturer of my problem. They quickly responded and found a solution for us. I think the uncertainty in the market is who can you trust. They earn my trust and I start looking at their other products. With this experience, I can rely on them to stand behind their claim. When the egg/bubble waffle maker was new, it worked fine. We used it a few times in the first month and may be once a month afterward. It was 4 months down the road, about 10 times usage, the waffle started to split and stick to the surface. We tried vegetable oil, canola oil, and butter on the surface before pouring in the batter. The waffle split. We tried to wait for the surface to heat up before pouring batter, it is the same. We tried to wait a little bit long for the waffle to harden more, it still split. The receipt of the mix is the same all along. The problem got worse, at first only a few bubbles split, now the whole waffle split.

Know what you're doing before purchasing this
Let me preface this review first: I cook, bake, do a lot in the kitchen and know my way around small and big appliances. I visit Hong Kong quite frequently and have the most authentic "bubble waffle" (鷄蛋仔) as it is normally served. Using this machine to make something decent requires some effort, and finding or coming up with a batter recipe that suits your tastes. The mold itself if a bit smaller than what you would get if buying the waffles off the street. The recipe that comes with the machine lends itself to softer waffles, and a little short on the custard powder. Plenty of recipes online and on youtube from local HK residents, or if you prefer, from US based food bloggers. It's getting popular and plenty of reading material on how to make it.Using it: Your first few tries will not be successful but don't give up. Gotta wait for the thing to warm to operating temp. Cooking spray is a must use. (The non-stick is just for show, and its just there waiting to peel). It'll take a little finesse to pour the batter in and spread it out evenly before it cooks and solidifies. Make sure you only fill it 1/2 to 2/3 full on one side. I like mine crispier, so I use less batter. Your choice, though if you go over 2/3 it will overflow when it expands. Make sure you pout it onto the side with the small lip that surrounds the bubble. It will help keep the batter from overflowing the sides. ( see picture, bottom half) You gotta pick up the whole machine and tilt it around until the batter is filled in all the individual bubbles. Once it's spread you have to flip it, then let it cook to your desired level. Wipe any batter that leak out onto the side of the machine before it dries. If you used the cooking spray, it should come out pretty easily with a little help. I used bamboo chopsticks, never use metal utensils on this surface. You may be able to use some other heat resistant utensils. Must do: Put the waffle on a cooling rack for a few minutes or else it won't crisp up.Clean it like you would a George Foreman grill-I wipe it down with damp paper towel. You may have to scrape batter from the sides of the machine if you didn't wipe it when it happened. Take your time, don't put this under running water. There are lots of crevices where water can enter and get underneath the cooking plates and onto the heating element.Thoughts: I wish this had an adjustable temp control, removable plates for easier cleaning, and better quality on the non-stick coating. There are spots on this where you can see specks from production. I'm super ginger when handling it, hoping it can last a couple more times. I also wish the bubbles are a bit bigger, as that will yield crispier waffles due to larger cooking surface and thinner more spread out batter.Like I said earlier, some practice, finesse, and tinkering with recipe and procedures, you can have some fun making the bubble waffles at home. For the price it does what it needs to and pretty well. Can't comment on longevity as I've used it only a handful of times.I have never written quite a review like this, probably will not again, so if this even helps one person then it's worth it for me.

Excellent waffle maker in a compact design
We’ve purchased two of these units. We prefer to use a light brushing of oil to prevent sticking. Lights up when ready to use (2-3 minutes) and then lights up again when ready (Usually about two minutes). I open it up early sometimes because I’m always afraid to burn the waffles and if not done just close the lid to cook a bit longer. My wife doesn’t flip the unit and they still come out fine. I prefer to flip it to get more even browning on both sides. There does need to be enough batter between the “egg” shapes on the flag part in order to keep the waffle intact. Otherwise, you’ll get individual egg shape pieces that aren’t connected. You do need to be careful when flipping to avoid batter leakage from the sides. Holding the lid closed tightly helps. Be careful when opening as hot steam comes out by the handles. Learned a good trick to clean when oil does build up. Use hot water and let it steam but make sure not to submerge the plates or any other part of the unit. Then a little rubbing with a wash cloth or sponge. It can take awhile to get into each of the bubble holes.

Fast cooking
This is a good egg waffle maker. I gave it 3 stars because the product I received didn’t look brand new . There were scratches around it .

Eggcellent waffle maker
This egg waffle machine exceeded my expectations. It formed crisp, tender bubbles as described. Other reviews complain about the machine being difficult to clean. I find it as difficult as any typical waffle maker (I had a Braun). The trick to using this egg waffle is more technique than machine:1. Get a good recipe. The one included is too complicated. The one I like and use has flour, Jello vanilla pudding, sugar, eggs, and evaporated milk.2. The batter has to be the right consistency - not too thick. Pour evenly in the holes, sweep across row by row. I use a bowl that has a pour spout.3. When the machine is hot, use oil spray can to spray the molds. Pour batter. Close lid firmly and immediatly flip.4. Don't peek too early. When the waffle is done and you haven't over poured, it should start to fall out of the molds naturally. Use a plastic spatula to remove.5. Let the waffle cool off a minute. Don't cover while it cools or it will get soggy. The first waffle will be the ugliest and most uneven brown color. It should still taste good.If you follow these instructions, you should get a good waffles each time.

The item you didn’t know you needed!
My kids love bubble waffles, got this as a Christmas gift for them and we have used it consistently ever since! It heats up quickly with a green light that tells you when it’s ready. Non-stick and easy to clean. It even comes with a little cook book with recipes to try. Would purchase again, highly recommend!
