No damage but pattern is not what I expected
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: Amazon Customer service as well as Pelican Customer Service are amazing! I was very fairly compensated by Amazon for the variation in what I expected for the coloring as well as Pelican, who didn't even need to offer anything but still extended a beautiful expression of appreciation for my business. In addition, this boat is AWESOME and I LOVE IT!! I have been out on the water 3 times already and I can't stop smiling. It's fun, smooth, easy and I love the exercise. I was so close to buying the Hobie but grateful that I found this first. Definitely worth the money and I plan to have it for years to come. I will upload a video as well. This is the second kayak I ordered (I returned the first one due to LOTS of shipping damage and almost appered to have been used plus I am STILL waiting for my refund to post now 3 weeks later after the damaged item was picked up by the freight company). There was no damage to this second kayak, it was delivered on time, everything was intact and delivery went very smooth. They did NOT call half hour before arriving as I was told they would but it was definitely delivered within the 3 hour window and I was home anyway so it was fine. The only disappointment is the patterning on the boat itself. It is nothing like the photo of what I ordered or like the first damaged boat I received (the top of that first boat was beautiful and just like the photo). When I wrote to Pelican and asked them if the coloring was defective they replied with this: "Is it not defective, the coloring is a little hasard since we melt some plastic, we don't have 100% control on the patterns it will gives. But be assure, you kayak is perfectly fine, just a little bit different."A LITTLE bit different? It's supposed to be marbled, and it's striped. That's a totally different look. If I am paying $1000.00 for anything, I want it to look exactly like what I ordered.I bought my current Wilderness kayak as a 'blemished' boat which was instantly discounted at 20% off from the retailer due to a slight mishap in the coloring process on a small part of the boat which was totally inconspicuous. I didn't have any issue paying 20% less for that because I chose that boat knowing that it had 'blemishes' and slight off coloring and appreciated the discount for the blemishes so I am disappointed that I got this boat at full price, especially since I needed to re-order and wait for this one because of the damage to my first one and it looks completely different from what I ordered. If I wanted a 'different' pattern, I would have chosen that on my own or purchased it at a discount because it was 'different'. With all the great reviews about Pelican, I am a bit surprised at this response. I am certainly not going to return it since I had to wait so long to get my replacement but I am just sharing my experience in case someone has the same situation with their purchase. In any case, I am looking forward to getting out on the water. I am sure that it will perform beautifully and that will be a 5 star experience but as of today, I am giving a 2 star because of my disappointment with the aesthetics and how Pelican replied to my concern. I will likely follow up with a phone call of my concern to Pelican as well. Maybe I will update my rating after that call.

Yes I recommend this kayak!!
Tried it for the first time today and loved it. It sits me up out of the water higher than I thought which is good, never got any water on it, even at the front where it's lower. The pedal drive is easy to use, doesn't go as fast as I'd like but that will probably change as my legs get in better shape. (female, just turned 67 years old). The seat was comfortable and the rudder system was very responsive. I also like how the rudder clips up when not in use so it doesn't get damaged. Lightweight, with a sleek design. I've already had other kayakers (that I didn't know) comment on how beautiful it was, and asked where I got it. Everyone guessed the price of it at $2000. Well made kayak, especially for its price. Fast shipping too! I will definitely be recommending this kayak!!!

Ripped seat poor customer support
Seat came ripped, poor customer support. They tried to tell me I had to mail this huge kayak back to get a replacement seat. Do not value their customers, so I told them to pound sand and I’ll never buy pelican again.

Truly enhanced kayak experience!
After using a traditional kayak for several years, I sometimes experienced hand and wrist issues that made me explore a pedal-powered alternative. I found only a few options available, some of which were far to expensive for my budget, but this Pelican model, which was one of the more modestly priced, really fit the bill and offered some advantages over competing versions. First, the pedals are a lever action, not circular like a bicycle. This enables me to keep a lower profile when operating the kayak, which improves stability and enables me to use my leg power more efficiently. But the biggest benefit is that my hands and arms are free to operate the rudder for easy steering, sip a beverage or even cast a fishing line if I'm so inclined. Also, I find I can move faster through the water than with a traditional kayak, so it's more convenient to zip around inland lakes and streams to explore and enjoy nature. Now that I've used this kayak for a few seasons, the only things I would change would be the length of the craft and perhaps a more adjustable seat. Because you don't need to steer by using the paddle, I believe the kayak could be a couple of feet shorter, which would enable me to fit it inside my SUV rather than have to hassle with the roof top carrier. A shorter craft could also make it a little lighter, which would also help in transporting it. As for the seat, I find it comfortable, but it only fits in one position and I find it's helpful to use an extra cushion on the seat to raise me up a bit more, which helps with the pedaling. The seat back is adjustable, so that's helpful. Because this is a sit on model, it's easy to get wet if you encounter waves or wake from power boats, so I tend to use mine only in warm weather when that isn't an issue. A couple of minor suggestions would be to add a small waterproof compartment for valuables and also a stiffer rudder control that would keep the rudder in position without needing to keep your hand on it. (I actually added a plastic washer to the mechanism to achieve this and it's a big improvement)The drive unit is pretty impressive and seems to be well made. It started to squeak annoyingly after the first few times I used it until I took it out and used some "wet" bike lubricant to get into some of the nooks and crannies of the mechanism, which made it operate quietly and with less resistance. And compared to other products that use a traditional round propeller, the Pelican's flipper-style paddles can hug the bottom of the hull when flexed, which can help if you're in shallow water. I always keep a paddle with me just in case I get into really shallow water and I either pop out the drive unit or flex it so it doesn't get damaged until I'm back in deeper water. Round propeller units would have to be removed because they don't have the ability to flatten against the hull like the Pelican drive unit.Overall, I am thrilled with this purchase and it's one of the most useful recreational pieces of equipment I have ever bought.
