Q: Do these guards need to be wiped or brushed off periodically? I can't do that on a second story house. Any feedback is appreciated.

Yes, I have pine needles that accumulates on the guards. I can brush them off on first story. I go up on roof on second story part of house and blow them clean without having to get too close to edge of roof since the needles lay on top of the gutter guards. Before the guards were installed I had to spend some time next to edge of roof blowing them out and sometimes on one knee carefully cleaning with my hands. I feel a lot safer since the guards were installed

Q: What do you use for end caps?

great question. I put these up 2 x / week and they work great. I take a hack saw and about 9 inches from the end slice through the back. I may even cut an in/ inch and a half slit. I bend that 9 inch part back. That 9 inch section is so low that you can put the two small screws right from the end into the top of the end cap. The 9 inch back is also bent down and will cover the back where the gutter over extends the roof. My experience is birds don't like being around these at all anyway. To be extreme, Home depot sells some bird repellent blue would guarantee that no birds would come by. I hope this helps
