Good!
I love these books as they are always informative, educational and interesting! Provides the right amount of facts/tidbits - not too little, not too much.

Fascinating the contrast of Germania - Germany
A very interesting aspect to divide ‘German’ history into ‘Germania’ - until 1/17/1871, and ‘Germany’ - as of 1/18/1871, the unification of all the individually governed fiefdoms and free cities.

Maps are useless
The book covers a lot of information and I really like reading it, but the maps are just not useful. They are too small to be able to read so you would have to look them up on the Internet.

Informative, but not well written
Having a lot of German ancestry, I was looking for a book that took me through history of the Germania area. This book had some good detail and interesting points, and was good for getting a background. The down side is the the writing is very poor in my view, with changing tones and poorly written sentences. If I didn't know better, I would say that AI was used to write much of it, which was then edited here and there. I am also not sure why the main focus was just Prussia, with little on Bavaria and other kingdoms in more recent centuries. Overall, a decent read for getting background, but cheaply written.

Very complete history without having to take a college course!
The books in this series are a pleasant way for an armchair historian -- like me -- to get a clear picture of the history of a country without having to take a semester-long course at the local community college (assuming such a course is even available). Knowing the history of a country is important in understanding why the people and their leaders in that country see things the way they do. In this case, it's also helpful in understanding our own people! The book starts out with information about our own Amish and Mennonite people and goes on from there. At that point, I knew I was hooked and wouldn't be able to read anything else until I finished! Also, and again being an armchair historian, I especially enjoy the detail that the author brings to German military history -- a subject that I enjoy especially when reading world history. It's unfortunate that I didn't have the author as my history teacher in high school, or I would have had much better grades! If you're even remotely interested in reading about European history, this book HAS to be in your reading list!

Love the maps!
First off, these books have maps and that makes me love them automatically. Second off, I actually got this set because I wanted to learn about Germania and for the price you can't beat a double pack. I loved all the information each book had, highly recommend!
