Very cool little receiver
Out if the box, it powered up and I was able to start using it. Picked up broadcast AM and FM without issue and I was able to pick up Ham CW, LSB, and USB traffic on 40 and 20 meters with the "stock" antenna. I will be attaching it to an outdoor antenna tomorrow and am expecting to listen to way more activity. I would buy again!

Not Reliable
Update: The first one I purchased lost its programming after a few months. It still turns on, but never boots up the "radio." I purchased an identical replacement in 2023, which did not have proper isolation and produced an audio that had a 2 cps flutter that made it impossible to understand speech, no mater how powerful the incoming signal was. I returned it. Suggestion: get a real radio.---------------------------It's durable and well made, but it DOES need an outdoor antenna (wire will do nicely) and a good counterpoise to receive stable signals, otherwise "Clear Channel" AM stations on any band give erratic receive volume and clarity. I found that 10 meters (33 feet) of wire under the eaves of the building as the antenna, plus 10 meters of wire forming a rectangle upon the legs of the bed as the "ground", settles things down nicely. (A BNC male to dual binding post adapter helps.) The battery holds a good charge, delivering at least overnight listening, and charges quickly from a USB outlet. I did not give this device five stars because its operation is digital, but the wait between dial change and sound resumption is faster than most such radios costing quite a bit more. Now if international short-wave stations would come back, we could get fake news from everywhere!

Small compact capable
Great little radio. Excellent receiver. I bought one , liked it so much I bought. Another for my brother. We are both active licensed Amateur Radio Operators. We both have enjoyed how capable these units are. It’s a small size and a small display. Sound is good.

Encoder knobs just as bad as ats20
Be very, VERY gentle with the knob. I highly recommend lubricating it as soon as you get it. Mine locked up after a week of normal use. I was able to get it turning again, but it won't click in now so I can't use any of those functions. Very annoying, Is saying this radio is not worth it. You should check out other shortwave radios in the same price range first. The V115 is phenomenal for $20.

Great radio, but could not update
I already had an ATS-20, but needed two for a project. This one was about 25% less expensive than the first, so I bought it.First the good: the "+" isn't that much of a change that I could see, but did have some nice things, like muting when switching to FM or SSB, so there isn't a loud "pop", and it has a battery level indicator. The bad news is that this came with V1.1.5 firmware, and when I tried to update it to V3.0.7, Arduino IDE did not recognize it. (I needed to be able to update it because I had some custom changes to the code that were needed for the project.) In fact, neither MacOS nor Linux detected a USB serial device. Since the Arduino Nano this uses as it's microcontroller has it's USB serial chip wired directly to the USB jack in the rear panel, I guessed that this chip was bad. Unfortunately, that chip is on the back side of the Nano, so I had to remove the Nano, which involved desoldering about 20 pins. Just the same, I had another Nano, so I spent about an hour replacing it. This worked (whew!), and my customized V3.0.7 code worked, so a) I didn't get anything in the process, and b) the differences between the ATS-20 and ATS-20+ did not affect the firmware. In case you didn't figure it out from this write-up, this is a highly hackable radio, and it's firmware and hardware are open source. Google PU2CLR SI47XX for all of it.

Very Portable!
The media could not be loaded. Great for SWL and receives better than expected! Must have for any Hobbyists or Amateur!

Low to no sensitivity
I tried the radio straight out of the box and the battery was charged. I can barely pick up any FM broadcast stations. And the AM band is not much better. I can pick up a few powerful stations and that is it. Tuning around on the HAM bands I hear nothing. This is all while using the antenna that came with the radio. I know it was cheap, but it should at least pick up some shortwave stations. I am not expecting really great selectivity, but the sensitivity is real bad. Do not buy this one, save your money and get something better.
