Quality refurbished laptops
We needed a group of laptops fast, and these fit the bill. They're refurbished, but of the group we got all of them were very nice with minimal signs of use. They were obviously cleaned and reworked before they came our way. They were double boxed for shipping, with each laptop in its own box. The only gotcha we found was that the Windows 10 license sticker was applied to the battery on 80% of the laptops. Since batteries will eventually fail, they are commonly swapped out for new ones. Make sure you note down the license key before you swap out the battery! Overall we're very satisfied.

Fast and durable
I'm happy with this computer. It's just a budget laptop I use mostly for work -- which entails reading PDFs, writing and compiling LaTeX files, and browsing the internet -- but it runs very smoothly. The hard drive, an SSD, is quite fast and never leaves me hanging, and 8 GB of RAM is plenty for my needs. I've even done some light gaming on this computer -- mostly playing Stellaris -- and considering what it is, it pulls its weight. I dual boot Kubuntu and Windows on this computer. Kubuntu works better and faster.I like the exterior of this computer well. It's not "ultra rugged" or whatever, but it has a very solid, metal construction. I have no fears of this computer falling apart. I've had plastic laptops that literally had pieces of their exterior break and fall off under pretty normal use conditions. This laptop inspires much more faith.I've had this computer for almost two years. I expect to use it for probably at least two more. When the time does come to replace it, I'll shop around, but I will very seriously consider buying another laptop from the same HP line.

Lots of Damage and Not Properly Refurbished
UPDATE:1 Month after Purchase the trackpad has failed.Original Review:This laptop was damaged and worn. A large dent in the lid, a 3rd party camera cover (installed poorly / crooked) missing the front two rubber feet on the bottom, and pink marker on various parts of the case. The lid had been compressed to the point where the rubber trackpoint (mouse) on the keyboard was rubbed into the screen. The battery in the laptop holds a charge for less than an hour and it should hold a charge for 7 hours new. The battery is degraded to an unusable state. The laptop itself functions properly and was almost a year out of date for updates (Last updates April 2018)This laptop was no where new quality and should be sold as very used.

Highly recommend with a Caveat
Unfortunately, I had to send this back . I never got the sound to work , and I really liked this computer . I reset , reinstalled drivers etc . But I’m older and this is apparently a common Windows 10 problem that’s beyond my patience to solve . Refurbished or not , I don’t think I should have to fix a computer that I got out of a box lol . With all that out of the way , I was sorely tempted to have the same one sent . The bang for the buck is unreal . So, if you are comfortable in your ability to fix Windows 10 problems it’s a really good deal . The computer itself was well packed and the scuff marks etc inherent to buying a refurbished computer were well within what I consider an acceptable range for normal wear and tear .

Great laptop!
This HP Folio 9470M is a great model, I have 2 of them. In my opinion these are better then the 840 models, and in many ways better then the current laptops available. This model CAN boot from a USB and run a virtual OS, unlike most of the current laptops sold my HP & Lenovo. As for this refurb model here, it was not "like new", mine had several scratches on the bezel by the camera, but the rest was good, so overall it was in excellent condition. One noteworthy thing to mention is the top of the laptop, the original was a matte silver that looked like metal, but this refub had the top cover replaced with a brushed satin looking silver that almost looked iridescent, it isn't bad, but not the same as OEM. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend this model.

Works fine, looks awful
The shipping was done really badly. The box was enormous. 50 laptops could have easily fit inside of it. It was the same size box I receive when I order 50lbs of dog food. Inside was the laptop and cord, some of the inflatable packing material, and a bunch of kraft paper. The laptop was not wrapped in anything and was sitting on the bottom of the box with all the packing material on top of it. In shipping, it could easily have been rattling around freely in the box and banging against the outside of the box without any protection. The body of the computer was in pretty bad shape. Looks like there was some kind of skin on it which bonded to the computer and yellowed/turned orange, and it is hard to remove. Multiple scratches and the little round mouse button in the middle of the keyboard was missing (still can use it, but I am just touching the mechanical piece below). The DisplayPort pins were smashed inside, so I couldn't use the port. The VGA port worked fine, so was able to use that to hook it up to my external monitor. I emailed them regarding this and received a prompt reply. They did not have a replacement, so I was offered the opportunity to keep it and receive a 5% discount on a replacement as a maximum benefit. I am on a limited budget, so this was not an option. Could also have returned for a credit. The computer works fine and is very fast. It came with one 8gb DDR3 RAM, so I added an extra 4gb RAM to make it a little more zippy. No problems with Windows activation as I have seen in some refurb reviews.Overall, if you need an inexpensive computer that works well but may not look very good (others seem to have gotten cleaner ones), then it will work for you. Despite the above, I decided to keep it as I had already done all the updates by the time I heard back from support and there was no guarantee I would get anything better as you get what they send with refurbished items.
