VERY LOUD
Works great and very loud. I use it on my sump pump circuit and on my downstairs freezer. Both circuits have ground fault outlets and for some reason every year or two go off.

Great for CPAP in Power Outage
Proven during tests to work immediately on power loss from an Uninterrupted Power System (UPS) where I then backup my CPAP with a portable battery system. It is very loud at night so I covered the speaker with cotton and tape to make it a bit quieter. For the money the performance is excellent and good design with 9 v battery power -- when needed. Further, the power cord makes it easy to connect to a crowded power strip/ UPS outlet.

EXTREMELY LOUD and EAR-PIERCING alarm
Whatever you do, don't believe the reviews that say this alarm is not loud enough. I had to return this item expressly due to its extremely loud and ear-piercing alarm. This alarm emits a sound louder than my whole home security alarm, and while testing, my neighbor texted me to ask if all was okay at my house. I was planning to use this to monitor my greenhouse GFI, but if it did alarm it would harass my neighbors relentlessly, and I live in a detached house on a large lot. Beware how you choose to use this. In addition, if you have cats/dogs in your house, they will be scarred (yes, scarred) by this device after just a few seconds. The manufacturer needs to allow volume adjustment.

Battery polarity markings are reversed
I bought from Amazon Warehouse, a returned item. Inside the battery compartment, as part of the white molded case, there are raised "+" and "-" battery polarity indicators. It didn't work. I'm an Electrical Engineer. On a lark, I reversed the battery, hoping it had diode protection. It worked perfectly. The markings are switched. It's actually too loud, and an quite annoying sound. Not a pure tone. But it still has to be fairly loud, because it's for the CGFI master circuit that runs to my garage, where my freezer is plugged in. So any time a GFI outlet around a sink, or, more typically, outdoors, would trip, my freezer would shut off. I'm going to tape a ball of cotton from a medicine bottle over the speaker.I wondered what the little hole in the back of the case was for, because I didn't want to cover it with the mounting tape if it was a reset button. I opened it and checked. It's nothing. I see no reason for it to be there, so I'm covering it.

Seems like it works. Most negative reviews don't seem to understand how it works.
Someone said "if you put two batteries in, they won't do anything". That's because it's not 2 AA or AAA batteries... just one 9v battery.Did not come with any instructions, so that is part of the problem. Here are the instructions - easy peasy:1) Make sure switch is in OFF position2) remove battery cover3) insert 9v battery, paying attention to positive and negative polarity4) plug the device in5) switch the device to ON6) brace yourself for a loud noise and unplug the device for a moment to verify functionality.7) plug the device back in. remember to change the batteries when you change your smoke detector batteries.Cheers!Open the bottom (battery cover slides off). No instructions, very loud alarm.
The unit seems to work OK but there were NO instructions included. I wouldn’t have known that it required a 9v battery if I hadn’t seen it in the description on Amazon, and then it took a while to figure out how to open it to insert the battery. And the “siren” is REALLY LOUD, which is good except that it went off as I installed the battery and I thought I had damaged my hearing. Other than those things, it fine.

A peace-of-mind purchase
A CGFI circuit breaker in our garage tripped and our freezer went without electricity for almost two days. Thankfully, we discovered the situation before any frozen food was ruined.Because CGFI circuit breakers are silent when they pop and need to be re-set, we needed something to alert us if this situation happened again. This modestly priced power failure alarm fits the bill. It is LOUD enough to be heard in the house. It's a simple product that works and gives you some peace of mind.
