Solid Secret Wars Tie-In That Delves into a Paradise Island Run by An All Female Team of Marvel's Wonder Women
A-Force is one of stronger Secret Wars tie-ins as it not only sets up a future on-going series, but also provides a bit of "flavor of life" for one of the warzones of Battleworld. A-Force takes place within one of the few idyllic, peaceful "nations" of Doom's Battleworld: Arcadia. A small island zone set apart from the rest of Battleworld's chaos and in the shadow of the Shield Wall, Arcadia is home to the A-Force: an Avengers line up entirely populated by some of Marvel's best female characters and led by She Hulk. An all female character line up feels a bit like a no brainer for Marvel (and almost like an apology to fans who have been demanding a female led MCU movie) and like a few other Secret Wars tie-ins this one actually serves as a "pilot" of sorts for a future limited run series. The plot of the first volume sees Miss America incur the wrath of Doom's Thors when she hurls an enemy into the Shield Wall. Despite She Hulk's best efforts, America is sent to serve time on the Wall and earns the displeasure of America's mother figure Loki. As She Hulk investigates she realizes that the battle was a result of a series of portals cropping up around Arcadia that connect to other warzones on Battleworld (a strict no no by Doom's laws). She Hulk realizes Arcadia has been set up to incur Doom's wrath and that someone is looking for her to take the fall so that they may assume her leadership role. All in all a solid starting point for the A-Force series (sadly it only ran for two volumes after Secret Wars ended) and a good tie in that fleshes out the world a bit more; it is fun to see that not every warzone on Battleworld is some awful dystopia but also great to see characters living in the world Doom created.

These aren't the 616 heroines you're looking for
Collects A-Force 1-5 (Secret Wars crossover miniseries)I haven't read Secret Wars yet, so let me know if I get any of this wrong in the comments section. This book is enjoyable and makes enough sense without having read Secret Wars. The Marvel Multiverse has been destroyed, and all the survivors of the multiple Earths are now on Battleworld, which is ruled by Doctor Doom who has godlike powers. The survivors are all segregated into their own little domains. Two major rules "stay in your domain" and "don't touch the Shield that keeps your domain safe from monsters" are enforced by "Thors."One such domain is Arcadia - an island from an alternate universe protected by that universe's versions of She-Hulk, Medusa, Nico Munro, (female) Loki, and others. The miniseries is heavily action-oriented, but there are also some interesting character dynamics between Loki, Miss America, and Nico. This book introduces Singularity, who is something like a living universe who has chosen to manifest in the form of a young girl. Knowing that if any of these characters die, the "real" 616 version are still out there reduces the suspense. In the next volume A-Force Vol. 1: Hypertime , Singularity will round up the 616 versions of these characters and form them into a team.

Five Stars
Really exciting to see strong female representations. An exciting re-imagination of classic superheroes.

Interesting concept with mixed execution
She-Hulk leading the charge was a nice change in pace from other comics out there. You can really feel Jennifer's frustration and vulnerability, the pressure put onto her as a leader, and being at personal odds with herself with every decision made. My biggest concern is that the enemy is predictable and the conclusion kind of soured my experience. It's an interesting conflict that feels incomplete.

Very enjoyable
Went into this not knowing too much about the whole warzones thing and the background with Doom but the story and the characters happily carried me through. I loved having the focus on so many really cool female characters and it looks to be going in an interesting direction, shall definitely get the next!

Pretty awful really.
Oh boy, is this average. The whole Warzones thing is pretty shabby, but this series is among the lowest. The scripting is poor, characterisation left behind and it just doesn't work.

10/10
This is by far my favourite of the Warzones series, it's funny, it's sad and it's clever. It features some of the fantastic newer Marvel female characters and some old favourites kicking ass. I cannot recommend it enough!
