A-Force Vol. 2: Rage Against The Dying Of The Light (A-Force (2016))

While It is Tragic that Marvel Cancelled Thompson's Series, the A-Force Goes Out on a High Note
Thompson's A-Force sadly comes to an end in a terrific second volume that features more Secret Wars references as well as a tie in to Civil War II. After having defeated Anti-Matter, the team of female Avengers heads out for rest and relaxation only to run into more remnants from the Battleworld of Secret Wars: the Countess (a powerful mind controller/reality warper) and one of the Thors. This Thor is actually a Dazzler (which provides no end to Alison's confusion). The team joins up with the Dazzler Thor to defeat the Countess after she gets her hooks into Nico. The second arc of the book sees Captain Marvel rope the team into helping with her Civil War II endeavors. After She-Hulk gets devastated by Thanos (seen during the opening chapter of the main event) the team is fractured over Captain Marvel's plans to use the Inhuman Ulysses to prosecute criminals before their crimes have been committed. When another vision comes through of Nico murdering a young woman, the team divides on how to handle it. Dazzler, Singularity, and Nico go on the run while Captain Marvel and Medusa try to bring Nico in peacefully. When the team stumbles across a remote town overrun with bug monsters, however, they have put their argument aside and team up with Elsa Bloodstone (monster hunter extraordinaire) to save the population. The artwork is even stronger this time around thanks to fun, stylized work and the storytelling is even stronger now that the generic "bringing the team together" opening arc is over. It is tragic that Marvel discontinued the series, but it ends on a heart warming note and using Civil War II to show the team falling apart was a fitting move. Even better, however, was that Thompson's book actually redeems Captain Marvel a tad. Carol, unfortunately, became the undisputed villain of the unnecessary sequel and this book at least shows her doubts and concerns instead of being a headstrong jerk like in so many other Civil War II tie-ins. Also, any book that uses Elsa Bloodstone is a winner.

Best Marvel team book, all-female
- She-Hulk! Nico Minoru! Singularity! Dazzler Thor!! And at last Elsa Bloodstone!!! This could have been Marvel’s best team book!- Could have been?- Could have been. It was cancelled.- Are those guys at Marvel crazy?- Maybe. Or maybe just the readers who only buy “Dead-Avenger-Pool and the Inhuman Mutant Clone destroy the Marvel Universe” month for month.- What is in this book?- This book contains A-Force volume 2 #5-10. The writing still got better when Kelly Thompson took over alone; the chemistry between the ladies is hilarious. The art of Ben Caldwell is stellar, that of Paulo Siqueira more than ok.- What can I do?- Buy this one and the other two volumes and read them. Tell everybody how good this is. Maybe Marvel will bring back some of these great characters somewhere else. And read Kelly Thompson’s new Hawkeye book (the female one).- Will do.

Disappointing
Almost everything lovable about the last volume are completely missing here. The main plot goes missing, a terrible Marvel crossover interjects, below average art, etc. Kelly Thompson is much better than what's shown here and I'm sure given another chance with these great characters she would succeed. This book however is an enormous miss.

Not very interesting, and the second story is quite childish... I totally understand why this series got cancelled.

I would like there to be more A-Force but I'm not that ...
First I wanna say that I had a few damaged pages and the package was already open when it was delivered, that is probably down to something that happened en route though and so I don't blame Amazon for that.I would like there to be more A-Force but I'm not that disappointed about it being cancelled after this volume. It was good, but not that good. It's hard to tell a good story with so many characters to focus on. Moments that should have been sad or heartfelt didn't rouse any kind of feeling because I barely had enough time with that hero to care. Dazzler was a much more standout character in this volume.Singularity remains super adorable. If this hadn't been cancelled I would continue to buy it and read.
