Am I wrong?
This is the 2nd masterlink I ordered, the 1st one I ordered had the same "issue". I couldn't get the cover on far enough to install the C-Clip, even when using pliars/ C-Clamps. I ended up using a Dremel to make the holes in the cover slightly bigger so I could install the safety clip. Maybe you need a special tool to pop the cover on fully, but I don't have that tool.

The links are designed to mechanically pressed on...get the tool
It is interesting to see all the comment how it does not fit and cannot get it on with plyers. To install a master link, particularly an O-ring one, you need a master link press tool. The links are designed to mechanically pressed on. The clip is only there as a backup if it work to somehow start to work its way out
