Works great, strong magnet
This little piece of hardware solved a problem at our cottage. The bathroom door always falls closed, so the previous owners of the cottage had installed a door stop that you could drop down or pick up. But that required us all to be trained to do that each time we went, even in the middle of the night. If someone did not put the door stop down, the door would close and then we could not tell if it was occupied. At the cottage there are always new guests who are not trained, so the confusion (and unexpected interruptions!) continued. Ridiculous!I installed this door stop and voila! The door is held open merely by opening it to the wall. And it is easy to open without any effort. A minimal amount of "training" is required for new guests, but it's a simple explanation.I will say that the magnet is very strong. I anticipated that it would not be good to have to yank it open, or have it clang as it connected. So I purposely offset the two pieces a bit. The ball does not go into the socket -- it just touches the edge of the socket. This makes for a gentle magnetic connection. I toyed with the idea of positioning them to fully connect, but to cover the post with a fabric "silencer." But my method works, so I'm sticking with it.

Mine is still working like new after 5 years
I have a bathroom door that sort of closes slowly all by itself. It doesn't help that the back of the door has a Cabidoor Cabinet attached so it makes it heavier. So to make sure my door stays open when I need it to - I got this. It works beautifully! The door securely stays open yet with just a slight tug it can also easily close. It stays behind the door when open so you do not even see it. Once you close the door you can see it, of course, but it looks just fine. Not unsightly at all like some other door thingies. And if you have cats there will never be the annoying springy thwong thwong sound. The only thing I have to say is that once in a while - maybe once per year or so - I have to just bend down and twist it slightly to tighten it fully on the wall again. I guess all the door openings and closings and the catching of the magnet and all can somewhat slightly turn the thing on the wall. Not a big issue at all - and it has never ever come off by itself or even very loose or anything. I am so glad I got this - it was a real game changer with that pesky door.

Great! I have four of these.
I've used this type of of door stop before and bought one of these to install in the "toilet room" in our master bathroom; the wife picked the color. After I installed it, it works perfectly(!), but the wife came in and said "Hmm, that's not the right color." Its in the "toilet room" of our master bath, you can't see it unless you have the door shut.... Still, it works perfectly.I've ordered 3 more of these for other locations in the house. This one was just as easy/hard to install as the others. The long piece that installs on the wall (typically) has three screws and dry-wall anchors, though I would use better anchors if it will be in a high traffic area. The smaller part is tricky to install - here is how I do it:Tape a piece of paper to the door over the location where the part will be installed.* Put the "door piece" on the magnet you just installed and close the door against it.* Trace the outline of the door piece on the paper, note that some markers will bleed through some papers and mark the door.* Disassemble the "door piece", removing the spring and "bumper" part and screw the screw plate back into the the outer shell* Align the outer shell to the outline on the the paper and mark the location of the two screw holes on the paper.* Set the door piece aside.* If you are drilling pilot holes, and you should be, drill your pilot holes. Otherwise, start the screws and then remove them.* Remove the paper from the door* Remove the screw plate from the outer shell and screw it onto the door* Reassemble the door piece. It does not matter if you did not install the door piece perfectly aligned with the magnetic piece, it will still work.

Tricky installation, but very nice afterward. Very helpful for wheelchairs.
PROS: Very nice looking. Works very well for my wife in her wheelchair. I can push the door open and this stop holds it in place, without hooking it. After passing through, it takes a very small tug to separate the door from the stop.CONS: Installation is tricky. Ours pulled off the wall in a few months, because the screws were too narrow for plasterboard. The plate which anchors the wall post is circular with 3 holes and small screws. If you buy one, either mount it to a wooden molding, or get some sturdy, but not too wide, wall anchors. Today, I reinstalled ours with an expanding wall anchor and 2 smaller anchors. Also, before you attach it to the wall, tighten the center screw so that it won't come loose while you are screwing on the long post. :-( It would be best to anchor it with some medium-hard plastic glue. Once this is done, it is a very nice, very handy door stop and holder.

Magnet works much better than prior competitor model I bought
I first bought a product by Stanley, very similar in design, but different in magnet strength. That item, also bought on Amazon, would not hold my fairly heavy condo doors, as well as it should. Just brushing against the door lightly, or even for no reason, the door would close (the magnet would not hold).I decided to try this model, both for color choice and to see if it worked better, and it DOES. The magnet strength was MUCH better, and now even takes a little tug to close the door.It is mounted in the exact spot (even just screwed the outer pieces over the seemingly identical mounting hardware already on the door and wall). Therefore the difference has to be only in magnet strength.I moved the one by Stanley to a light, inside door, and now they both work well.I would highly recommend this. It is only a month or so old, so I cannot say anything about how it will hold up over time, but have used it to hold the door open many times in the month and it worked flawlessly.
